The Mail should do a feature on this woman from Dalkeith Road, it could be interesting!

Christchurch, erm... civic centre (it's certainly noticeable)?

The curly slide at mill house, used to love seeing that as a kid

What's the tallest non church building in Hartlepool? Titan House?

They should pull Titan House down. Its an eyesore, especially round the back.

The hart on Navigation Point
St. Hilda's Church
Town Wall
Them windmill things
Crimean War cannon
Heugh Battery
That plaque saying we were bombed

A few of us (not many) can remember scenes like this.

I guess this would have been taken in Greatham street or maybe somewhere near Belle Vue.

I remember driving down Brenda Road and someone had pinched the slag bank.

Yes indeed, South Durham Steel and Iron Company North Works to be exact.
It might have spouted filth into the air like there was no tomorrow but it did employ thousands upon thousands of people.
And like Grabec, I find there is much cruel beauty in that photograph.

I can't imagine growing up in Hartlepool when it used to look like that, 30 - 40 years ago it was just a completely different type of town.

Offit.

To be honest, I can't imagine growing up in Hartlepool, or most other places, now.
At least we had slag heaps. There was a lot of soul in slag heaps :sweeeet:

My grandad had a real thing for the prop piles. When they went he was gutted. I think he was involved in their production or transportation at some point in his life.

That's Musgrave Street alright, with the Central Stores at the top, and you can still see where it was if you go to the Central Stores ( presently converted to flats) and look down the grassy area opposite. You can actually still walk down what was Musgrave Street, on the grass, passing South Scarborough Street, and what was Whitby St. Hucklehoven Way is further over. I used to live in Whitby St as a kid and have walked up and down Musgrave St hundreds of times. The Piccadilly Bar near the junction with Lynn St was a great coffee bar that sold delicious ice cream. At the other end of Musgrave St. was the level crossing into old town.

Certainly is Lister Street Infants school where I walked in in my very early youth to be greated by the formidable Miss Chilvers. Frosty knickers personified. The house on the right was the Caretakers Lodge.

I love old pics of the town , I thrive on seeing stuff like this.
What it goes to show is, nothing lasts forever. We all disappear, as do the landmarks we build.
