Did he possibly say that when Ritchie Barker plays we hoof the ball up to him?

(Disclaimer: This is not an anti-Barker post so don't get started. I blame the defenders for being lazy and hoofing it up to him...so don't fooking start.)

He talks about playing the ball on the ground and passing into feet as if it's a bad thing though.

Butterworth said it earlier in the season and now Wilson has.

I couldn't believe it either I must say. Bit late in the day now like :!:

Another north east manager also has an opinion on playing with a target man - Kevin Keegan, quoted on the BBC site 'With all the movement we've got up front, we need someone to stand still...and Mark's that man!' rolfl

aye he's talking some sense in that mobile forwards is the way forward - but i wonder if he was watching the same game as me cos we created very little (a shot from foley and richie snatched at an effort and put it over after some decent play) from what i can remember and at times when foley was the lone striker with matty and joel wide we still tried a few long balls up him!!!!!

the pitch and the wind did make playing much football tricky like...

Well, for me the way forward is to play football and keep the ball on the deck. We can do it, we have the players (although we have 1 or 2 who can't). Swansea have proven this season that the way to win this league is to play passing football, to feet. I noticed when they were at the Vic the other week that they very rarely play any long balls, in fact the only time the ball left the deck was the occasional cross into the box.

It is the most attractive way to play and, if done right, it gets results. If I was IOR, when the next managerial appointment comes along, it would be a stiplulation that the team plays this way, home and away, rain or shine - endof.
