This board has got a bit silly over the last few days, I moved over here from another one as i thought the banter was much better but its sliding a little.

Then it needs addressing.

However we aren't referees, you need to decide yourself what's dignified and what isn't. Here's a guideline and it's always been a good one.

Most Bunkerites know each other. They all say hello on a match day because few miss. If you've said summat, would you still turn up for a pint the next day in the same company and stick to your guns??

Frankly, quite a lot of abuse has been going on over the last few weeks and the mods have just let it happen. As Aido pointed out recently (I think it was he), some people get backed up when a bit of bad-mouthing is going on. Others have to put up with far worse, with nothing being said

I, along with most people have had enough of all the shite and I AM going to start banning IP's. We don't have anyone to answer to but ourselves and if, as I suspect, people are just trying to bring down the board then people need to be booted out. I've tried asking nicely by Pm but to no avail. We are heading down the rivals path and we can't be having that, if you/they don't like it then you or they leave stage right.

I think this messageboard is excellent. I admit I went over the top at the weekend, but I was deliberately playing the devil's advocate at times cos I was getting sick of most people going in the same direction (ie the Wilson out direction). I thought it created a lot of debate/fun/stick/abuse/laughter/gnashing of teeth and unfortunatley some people took it too far. But I never let it get too personal as we are all Pools fans. Some people are a bit hypocritical on here as a lot of rubbish/abuse is posted and nothing is said and it seems the board regulars stick together. It's healthy to have different opinions and to have annoying/chewy/knobheads on the board as well as the upper echelons of our little society. It's part of life's rich tapestry to have differences. That's is all.

I think we are all referees, especially of ourselves. It is our responsibility, as individuals, to referee ourselves. As for having foes lists, I'm afraid I just don't buy that one. Why have foes lists consisting of fellow Poolies? Ok , so you have a foes list and someone backs up one of your foes, does that make he/she a foe as well?
I like Pooliekev's take on this. Don't write anything that you wouldn't say face to face. What a good idea. From now on I shall work to that, as best I can. I have already posted a description of myself and invited people to come and chat if they have a problem with me, so far no one has bothered.
As for this newbie bit. There are no new Poolies, just Poolies. With regard to following Pools, the vast majority of you are newbies as far as I am concerned. What does it matter? I'll give you another Pooliekev type bit of advice. Judge a post on its content, not on who happened to write it.

No they haven't.

The mods' rule has always been not to let threads degenerate into personal battles/abuse. In general they don't, so we don't need to moderate.
But we had a wave of that kind of thread about a year ago.
I stepped then in and moderated by LOCKING a thread (yes I took the initiative since no one esle seemed in a hurry to apply the rules).
And man did I get stick for it.
Most of all from people who don't think before they react. Those I'm talking about will recognise themselves.

But that's all right: I have a thick skin, and I'm prepared to stand my ground and defend what I do.
Locking is not censorship. No threads are deleted; nothing anyone has writted is invalidated; all that happens is you don't get to contribute any more to that thread. Once you have figured out WHY you didn't get to contribute any more, you can take a step back and begin again *reasonably* (i.e. without the insults) in a different thread.

It was a long time before anyone locked a thread again. But I did lock one last week and those involved know which one I'm talking about. It was the only one for me that *by definition* broke the rarfism rules. I find it a bit strange that no other moderator jumped in before me.

Now if those rules have changed and we have to also judge the QUALITY of a thread, then I'd argue that that has become censorship. I for one don't want any part of that. But please don't say moderation (by which I mean moderate moderation i.e., not heavy handed dictatorial moderation) isn't happening.
