Time to decide who is the best. Referees are under intense scrutiny, but it is a hard job. Who is the Pierre Luigi Collina of Hartlepool?

I haven't played for a couple of years but there was a bloke called Derek who was usually brilliant and well respected - I think his second name might of been Martin but not sure.....

There are some decent ref's in the league. I find the one's that have a bit of banter back with you are the one's that get the most respect.

I agree with that. Frankie normally has some banter on the pitch but he does like a card refyellow refred

I would say that there is only 5 decent ref's in the town that have not a lot between them.

1, Graham Muir
2, Neil Sharpe
3, Billy Reid
4, Frankie Reid
5, Ali Sah

then you have the next set who like to be centre of attention now and again, but if they dont have that attitude when they turn out could be up there with the other 5

MArk Gale / Sticky

Other than that not a lot more to choose from.

By the way could i just wish Graham Muir all the best in his recovery following his recent illness. Get Well Soon MAte and hope to see you with a whistle in your mouth soon

   clappp clappp

i used to play and manage in the peterlee and district league and there were several bad refs, i know its a thankless task but some of them dont make life easy for themselves.
had derek martin referee a few times and he was ok if he liked you but if you upset him then you didn't get another thing all game or at least until the other team upset him.
another bloke from hartlepool was alan parkes, absolutely atrocious, was a proper little hitler.

Sharpey is a good lad, I have known him for years but I haven't played football with him refereeing though. Last time I spoke to him he was saying that he was close to being put on the Northern League list I think

I'll go Ernie Draper seeing as he's my uncle (sort of). I do honestly think he is up there though. Graham Muir is a good ref and I'll also give a thumbs up to Derek Martin and Mark Gale, I've only had good experiences with them. Skippy is also a good shout if he's still going on, he always let the game flow, and Stan Henderson wasn't half bad either.

My old man (who is looking over my shoulder) says that Blaney is a legend because he used to turn up drunk and once tried to play 3 halves. The other one he remembers is Freddie Mitchell on is moped. Alvin deserves a mention because he onced refereed a full game in a parka coat because it was too cold. Kenny Powell is his choice as the best ref in town.
