Det Supt Gradwell said it was one of the most violent murders he had come across in his lengthy career.

He said: "It was a totally unnecessary and appalling set of circumstances.

"I do not think Herbert and Harris have recognised how violent the attack was.

"They have just done it without thinking but they have seemed to have enjoyed it and carried on remorselessly kicking at two very defenceless people who were unable to protect themselves because of the level of violence inflicted upon them.

"There was a total lack of parental control.

"I am very critical of some of the parents involved. I really don't think they have taken completely seriously how repulsive this incident was."

He said that when Harris was initially interviewed about the assaults he was "laughing and joking" with his mother.

The down grading of morals and respect the filth and file computor games. down loading god no's what while sat in there bedrooms and tv programmes that we find funny like Shameless that are disgusting and a blueprint for young people to follow.
We are creating generations of out of control young people that do not no any bounderies or care for anyone but there selfs i fear the future is bleak.

Can I just say that, three times in the last two weeks, young people have stood up on the bus and given me their seat in a smiling and respectful way simply because I am a foreigner and their elder?? Today when I had a seat already, the young girl opposite me gave her seat to a pregnant woman. This is commonplace.

It certainly feels like this is a good summary of the present state of play in society right now. But I worry this is something that gets to you as you get older. You can always generalise about how bad things are amongst modern youth but when ever I meet young people or any of our lads' friend both male and female we get a wonderful reception from kids that invariabley appear to be attractive and talented.

I do know of a couple of kids that haven't realised their potential not least because of drugs, one of whom was an obvious victim of an overbearing, pontificating father who eventually denied the lad existed. But the lad wouldn't do anyone a bad turn.....apart from himself that is

The freak show media makes sure you only hear the bad news (unless it's Prince Harry like and he's got room to talk) and on the whole I reckon the rotten apples are few in number and give the vast majority a bad name.
