on the post match interview with brian arundale yesterday, BA asked about porters goal and mentioned that it was vintage stuff from joel, to which DW replied "was it? thats the first time i've seen joel do anything like that from joel" and followed it with the big but - about joel needing to be more consistant.

does he not realise that players can only try to be consistant if they are actually on the pitch and not on the bench for 2/3 of the season. stpid stpid

He's scored 10 goals in 16 starts this season.

I think thats quite consistent.

You can bet your bottom dollar if he doesn't play well on Tuesday he'll be dropped again though.

the interview was on as i was driving home, i nearly crashed the car when he said that, just goes to show wilson is an absolute CLOT.

despite barker being leading scorer, in my opinion joel is the best centre forward at the club, centre halves hate playing against him.

Why not praise him for what was a brilliant goal!?

I hope Porter, Monkhouse, and McCunnie continue to make him look daft for the rest of the season.

If Porter had been played more regularly he could have finished with 20+ goals this season.

But he does, didn't he praise Budtz after all of his mistakes, didn't he praise Elliot when he was playing crap, didn't he praise Foley for being very fast and didn't he praise Antwi !!!!!.

He praises everybody apart from the ones who deserve it.

Well that's not what I heard him say in an interview with Radio Tees during the half time break of the Boro ( ) game today.

I can't remember it word for word, but I remember Brian Arrundale saying that it was vintage Porter. Wilson replied by saying yes it was but it's the first time he's seen it. He said he knows a lot of people hold Porter in very high regard at the club and its the sort of thing they been telling him that he can do. But the club are trying to get Porter back to his best on a regular basis. He went on to comment on how Porters all round game was excellent yesterday and that now he's the number one main striker and that we are relying on him as Michael Mackay is not ready to be the main striker yet as he's raw and unproven.

To me it sounded like a fair assessment, we know Joel Porter is a cracking player, we've seen him over the years, DW hasn't. He's seen a player who has struggled for full match fitness for a long time, he's seen a player who clearly has talent but has either not been able to use it (ie the partnership with Barker) or has not had an injury free run to enable him to get back to his very best.

DW is hardly going to knock one out over JP's goal, he needs him to produce that sort of performance level week in week out.

When you put it like that it's fair enough but I don't agree on your point on fitness, it doesn't apply to this season as he's hardly been injured. He has been available for selection for 36 of 42 games, he has started 16. The six games he did miss through injury were all in one spell in December.

[quote="chip fireball"]i heard part of the interview in the garden. put it this way if barker had got the ball 15 yards inside his own half with his back to goal and gone the length of the field and scored wilson would have been talking about it for months.

There you go again Mr Chip, you don't have to exagerate it, it was a brilliant goal, probably 2nd to the one he scored at Cheltenham. Only Browny at the club could have scored a similar one, but it didn't start from 15 yards inside his own half, from what I remember it was a step over from the half way line, passed the next defender midway into the half, drew the keeper, could have squared it to Mackay but dinked it over the goalie, brilliant. (am leaving meself wide open here cos I haven't seen it yet on the tele) but that's how I remember it.
Yesterday Porter started off terrible, as did a few others, giving away possesion regularly and putting us on the back foot during a very nervy first 10-15 minutes, then he hit a purple patch and Gillingham couldn't handle him or his runs, it was Joel back to his best, but then in the 2nd half I can't remember much about him, but so what, he'd done the damage and helped us win the game.

Mr ptbaps post was spot on

not very often i back chip but on this occasion he is correct joel got the ball 15/20 yards inside his own half or the cameraman on the championship painted a line on to make it look better
try looking at the footage of the goal again on sky tomorrow or the replay of the championship
mind you will have to remove the rose coloured glasses first

I don't think Joel had a great game yesterday. As people of said he gave the ball away for fun in the first twenty minutes, he's had far better games this season.

But he produced something that was worth the admission fee on it's own. Only him and James Brown are capable of that on a regular basis at the club in my opinion.

Oh shiit was it, just goes to show how fast Joel is then cos when I looked up he was already on the half way line, I did cover meself mind and say I was leaving meself wide open to be wrong, unlike Mr Chip, damn shud've known he'd have checked first sadx

If DW had really not seen Joel do anything like that before, doesn't that mean he's watched no replays of any of the games that were played before he arrived? That's some admission, isn't it?
Obviously a manager has to make his own decisions based on what he sees in front of him, but surely he should be also be taking on board what's been established already about a team in terms of players' individual styles, their natural positions, which partnerships work within the club etc etc.
You shouldn't just start with a blank sheet every there's a change in manager, surely, and start experimenting all over again?

Can I just say, whilst recognising that I'm in danger of turning into a chi....sorry.....repetitive boring old get, that the problem is NOT AT THE FRONT, it's at the back........we score like title winners and concede like relegation candidates and banging on about Barker v Porter will not repair that damage. Sam Collins will repair the damage.

Now how the fook you are going to come round to the fact that Ben Clark can't get in because Sam Collins is a colossus will break your fookin' hearts....

And Danny Wilson signed Sam Collins.... rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl

Back to the whingi...errmmm...drawing board girls.... :sweeeet: :sweeeet: :sweeeet:

Football had suddenly become enjoyable again, Danny looks bemused, the supporters are happy..... but you just know that this is not in the plan and that 'Captain Wilson' will steer the ship back to onto his intended course as soon as his 'crew' are available..... and the Wisonistas' will cheer from the sidelines regardless.
