The Hartlepool Mail isn't a paper for the town anymore. It always has Sunderland on the Front Page, even if we won the FA Cup it would still have a section about how Roy Keane was spotted getting in his car.

The serious point is that the Mail has always been a soundly local paper and now seems to be a spin off from the Sunderland Echo. Sort of a monkey hanger watered down version of the Echo with a few local stories much like the Yakker mail was to Horden and Trimdon.

This is in my view a huge shame but probably inevitable. Going back even one year ago, I cannot envisage the Echo giving the kind of support that Poolie Pride got from the Mail in the campaign that they ran.
