Sorry to ask a question that is totally not football related but I would appreciate some recommendations from any of you guys who live locally. It will also be a welcome distraction from Pools right now.

The future Mrs Disorder and me are going to be moving in together but we are not sure where to live. She works in Yarm whereas I work in Hartlepool. Ideally we would like to live somewhere equidistant from Yarm and Hartlepool but this would probably mean Boro, Stockton or Billingham. We have no kids at the moment and dont plan to do so for a good few years so schools are not really an issue. We would probably be looking for a house rather than a flat and we would struggle to exceed a mortgage of £120,000.

Any serious recommendations from those who live locally would be really appreciated. Im not very familiar with local towns outside of Hartlepool.

Cheers (oh , and I know many will recommend not moving in with a woman   )

How about not living in Hartlepool at all?

Living away is for the best, its such an uncultured town. Have 'wacky' hair or have 'plugged' ear lobes and you labled a 'freak' or a 'goth' and therefore run a very high risk of being punched in the face!

Its also got the most violent street in the UK - Church Street! Nice!

I have now been away for 5 months and love it here! Go about your business with ease and have many things to do when bored of messing around on The Bunker!! Hartlepool has a cinema and......what else does it have? a Tesco and ASDA.

Dont move to Ingleby Toytown. stick with going to Yarm or something.

In all seriousness, i'll not be back in Hartlepool to live. But it is actually a decent place, well, some of it. Marina, Fens, High Throston id suggest!

Yarm is supposed to be well pricey but it depends on the sort of house you want? I assume a two bedroom new-ish house is the sort of thing you will be looking for - ie; a house where you need to do very little building / doing up wise.

Billingham - near the Stoney Oak / Owington Farm is probably your best bet as a compromise. As it is reasonably accessable to both Hartlepool and Yarm and not that pricey usually. Ingleby Barwick is a bit like lego land and access can be a problem during peak hours, there is also shitloads of break ins over there apparently. Yarm Lane that runs through Eaglescliffe to Yarm is also a nightmare and there are huge traffic queue's there and it is fairly expensive around Eaglescliffe....

Sedgefield looks a quaint little place to live, and I don't think it's that expensive. Take the A177 to Stockton, and onto Yarm from there.
Straight onto the A689 for the town, I reckon it doesn't seem a bad compromise overall, without having to live on Teesside

come to the headland for a quiet life
once the coop shuts it is lights out till six in the morning

seriously i would not want to live any where else but my needs are probably a long way short of yours

three bedroom house with a garden back and front £110 000 one minute from the sea
or even a choice of similar price, on the sea front modern or pre war five minutes from the vic half an hour to Yarm

On mortgages - I was told that there was a self certification mortgage where as long as you can prove that you can meet the payments you can basically borro above your comfort zone or what the banks are willing to give you. Maybe there are some financial experts on here that could confirm this...?

Cheers for the tips fellas.

We are pretty certain that we want to live outside of the town so the headland would be a no-no. It would be a bit of a nighmare for her getting to yarm every morning although it would be ideal for me to roll out of bed into work. Billingham does sound like a decent compromise however, altho I have been told that it is very difficult to sell properties there as nobody wants to live there. I dont know how true this is. sctatchinghead

I know nothing about Sedgefield and had not considered Durham as an option but I will have a look into this. Cheers

Mot sure who stated this FACT but Church Street is not a patch for Union Strret (Pompey), St Pauls Rd (Bristol) or a whole host of streets in London.

these do exist but you pay a higher interest rate and also sign a disclaimer re your salary etc

however current climate may see these reduced or even halted.

therefore if you are going to do it do it asap

for £120,000 you could get a 2 bedroom on high grange of near owington farm pub.
If you want 3 bedroom you would have to look at ex-council around roseberry road or if your very brave down low grange. Moved into owington farm area 15 years ago and never had a problem selling when we wanted to move.

The "Credit Crunch" has put paid to these Self Certification Mortgages. Besides, stick to what you can afford, not to what some mortgage shark of a salesman wants to lend you (and him pocket a huge wedge of commission).

Go and live in Yarm, if you can afford somewhere you're both happy with.

Anyone who thinks Hartlepool is the be all and end all simply hasn't opened their eyes.

I dont think we could afford to live in Yarm and to be honest travelling from Yarm to Hartlepool everyday for my job would be a bit of a pain IMO.

What's wrong with Low Grange like?  Our next door neighbour's house is up for sale, 3 bedroom semi £120,000. OK if you like a back garden full of decking, and don't mind taking over a property previously owned by a fat loud mouthed smoggy.

I worked in Sedgefield for 8 years and always liked the place. It's a bit further from Yarm than Hartlepool though and I would guess more expensive. Other than that you have places like Bishopton, Redmarshall, Thorpe Thewles but I'd guess they are pretty pricey too. I lived in Billingham once but wouldn't do it again.

I would be very careful about picking somewhere just because it is equidistant to each of your workplaces. You'd be better off finding somewhere that you wanted to live and remembering travel costs for leisure (eg going to Pools, going for a night out etc).

Sedgefield is canny for a night out as it has several pubs.

You can get a canny pad around those new builds at the North end of Clavering cos they're always cheap to buy (that big sprawling estate thingy behind the Gillen Arms) and it's dead close to the A19 too.

Don't get fooled by folk knocking Hartlepool as a place to live. It's generally no better and no worse than anywhere else in this country. Especially Hull, which is just like a bigger version of Hartlepool anyway!

I've lived and worked all over the country and everywhere has its good and bad points.

Stockton, Billingham, Yarm, Diddlesbrough- none of them have anything better going for them than Hartlepool does and you'll end up paying travel costs every time you wanna come into town to see friends, family, football etc. Balance those costs against work travel and also against the costs of moving house (solicitors fees, stamp duty etc) should you find that you don't like your chosen spot and wanna move back to town.

It does seem canny, a few people have suggested Wolviston but it seems a touch expensive. Not sure we could stretch to it.

I didn't think Billingham was that bad a place to live. I used to go out with a lass who lived off Marsh House Avenue and it seemed quite pleasant. Mind you that was about 15 years ago.

If you bought a place in Wolviston it would probably cost you double the price of a similar property in Billingham that was only about a quarter of a mile away!!

Sedgefield looks a quaint little place to live, and I don't think it's that expensive. Take the A177 to Stockton, and onto Yarm from there.
Straight onto the A689 for the town, I reckon it doesn't seem a bad compromise overall, without having to live on Teesside

Sedgefield is nice but is known as jam n bread hill, fur coat and no knickers. I doubt you will get anything in Sedgefield for 120k maybe a 1 bed flat. The little villages round about it has some nice houses and nice prices. Depends what you want though you will either love the quietness or hate it, you can pick up a terraced or semi with gardens for 90-120k no problems in say Fishburn which is close to the A689 or A19/A1M.

Theres a 3 bedroom 3 storey link house along from me for £120k it has gardens front and back and parking to the front.
