But at least we get rid off them out of our country. It's probably costing us that much each week to keep them 'banged up' over here.

Do you think the ID cards will be Blairs 'Poll Tax'? I know for a fact I am not going to be paying for one. They won't achieve anything, I can already prove who I am without having to carry an ID card. People who want to stay anonymous will continue to do so. So what the f*ck is the point!!

Before Mrs T became PM I said I would emigrate rather than stay in this country with her in charge. But then I met a certain someone and decided to stay! So the big question is did I do the right thing?

Soldiers are paid to go where they are told and fight who they are told to fight. I have no sympathy with this 'we didn't expect this' lark. Throughout history we have fought in places where it simply wasn't right. The fact is that we are there and the forces should stop whinging and get on with the job. Mind you when soldiers stop complaining you really do know you have a problem.

The tax break is bollox, a clear case of spin. To the typical squaddie it'll be about £1500. These figures are averages including Generals earning £200k and down to Captains and lieutenants earning 40 to 50k.

The real neccesities are in post traumatic psychological care which we are unsuprisingly poor at. These lads are coming back with a huge body count and after so much killing it becomes the norm. One of these lads will blow a gasket if we're not careful and we'll have another Hungerford on our hands.

Thinking back to my time, I remember playing tricks on each other with enemy body parts. Odd you might think but at the time it was hilarious. These lads are now similarly desensitised, we either give them professional councilling or reap the effects.

I wish it was that easy; you won't be able to leave the country because you won't be able to renew your passport.

You'd have to think very carefully where you want to go.

Out of the frying pan........

Sometimes its wise to listen to the voice of experience. Monty is nicely set up in Montpellier but I would hazard a guess it hasn't all been plain sailing.

I guess it all depends on what you leave behind you. The grass is always greener but you lack a safety net when you live overseas. If you completely immerse yourself in another culture then you stand half a chance but the temptation to look backwards is very strong. I have friends who live in Australia (who hasn't??) but she married an Aussie and it's taken her five years and two kids to settle.

I've spent most of the last 10 years away from England (and of course God's back garden) but have always came home at weekends or every other weekend. This to me is the ideal solution. i've worked with so many lads who have married locals, got divorced 10 years later, and are stuck there (in this case Norway) because of kids etc. they always appear to be so lonely. They're over the moon if other lads start from back home as its someone to pal up with. problem is, they're usually so out of touch they bore you rigid.

There's a lot to be said for home

I turned down an interview for a job in New Zealand for exactly that reason.
