budtz 7 : didn't have a great deal to do. flapped at one cross and punched when he should have caught. apart from that, looked solid enough.

sweeney 7 : definitely improved as the match went on. caught done a couple of times by their winger, but looked a proper threat going forward. hope he stys, and it could be a masterstroke by wilson to play him there.

nelson 8 : much better with a bit of experince alongside him. raised his game and looked the part.

collins 9.5 : one of the best debuts since gus di lella. awesome in the air and sensible on the deck. we looked a different team with him there. credit to danny for getting him. very very good.

humphreys 7 : some ropey passing again, but very solid. great in the air and looked better going forward.

brown 9 : superb til he took a knock. he scares the shyte out of teams, so they double up on him, creating space for other people. hope it's only a slight knock.

liddle 8 : excellent. strong in the tackle and creative. looked mad keen today i thought, and kept us ticking over constantly. very good when he had to defend.

boland 9 : i've criticised him, but thought he was awesome today. passed the ball in tight spots superbly, and looked good in every department. if he can play like that most weeks, he's got to be first choice.

thompson 8 : after a ropey first few minutes, thought he showed his experience in retaining the ball and opening the play up. superb free kick, and added that bit of quality all the time he was on the pitch.

porter 8 : only not an 9 because of his teapotting. looked good on the ball and provided a constant threat, but needs to get off his arse quicker. took his goal well and with a bit more luck would have had a couple more.

barker 9 : two great home game in a row for the big feller. ran his balls off again and what he lacked in pace, made up by sheer effort. great in the air today and looked to link up play at every opportunity. penalty was never in doubt, and his second showed a good touch and strength. keep proving me wrong richard.

SUBS :

foley 7 : took up so many good positions but they came to nowt. good work for joel's goal, but just a bit frustrating when he does all the hard work and then is let down by his final touch.

monky 7 : looked narky and fresh when he came on. could have scored but a rusty touch let him down.

mccunnie 7 : no real chance to establish himself, but jamie looked composed on the ball and probably deserves a start soon.

Whatever. I notice we make a lot more fuss about losing 2-0 than we do about winning 4-0 though.

Anyway I already explained Tuesday's mishap before we even played: it's because I was there. The last away game I saw Pools win was at Oldham in 1968 when Peter Blowman scored 2.
Just thank your lucky stars I stayed away today.

P.S Luton were piss poor. If they were any good they have walloped a bag o'shite like Pools wouldn't they.

Here's a quiz for you (don't look up the answers):

1) how many times did we score 4 or more goals in a single match in the Scotty season?
2) how many times have we done it this season?
3) how many more goals do we have this season than in the Scotty season after 29 games?

As Kev's already told you till he's blue in the face: forget about creating and scoring goals. It's not worth the whinge because it's NOT TRUE that we are lacking firepower.

I agree with Chip - it was however refreshing to see Pools get the ball down and play a bit of football once the second goal went in. Hopefully the result will give the lads confidence and we can move forward with a sequence of good results. It was good to see Jan Budtz back in goal as well although he had little to do..... clappp

their keeper couldnt kick the ball

Was it a different keeper from the one in the opening game? In that match the goalie's tactic of kicking to their right wing caused us all sorts of problems.
