Wecome to Mr Mull, famous shopper in the emporiums of Oban.

One question: Why move there? It's a bit quiet ain't it?

I must admit to being a massive Isle Of Mull fan, Tobermorys great but I love driving around the uninhabited areas, it's like the last 2 centuries never happened in parts.

Did I tell youse I am related to the MacBraynes of Caledonian McBrayne ferries??! clap

Tobermory's where Balamory is filmed, isn't it?

And I swear I've been, when I was about 9 or 10. I got the ferry over from Oban, and there was a small chocolate factory there

I actually went on Honeymoon there about 3 years ago! We stopped in Tobermory and spent about 10 days on the island and loved it. We felt we'd got to know it a bit, still a few things we didn't see (Carsaig Arches for example) but we covered a lot more ground than the trippers that come over for a one day "Mull Experience" trip from Oban.

We got a lovely calm day to see Staffa, managed to avoid the crowds at Iona (4 of us including the guide on a tour!), enjoyed walking in Aros Park, went to Wings OVer Mull Birds of Prey centre, then the castles.... Torosay is amazing as it's one of the most "interactive" castles I've ever been to, even if it's a residence rather than a keep - how many historic buildings invite you to sit in the library and flick through the family scrapbooks?

I still have a postcard with "Mull Weather" on it - a poem allegedly by a Summer Visitor:
It rained and rained and rained and rained
The average was well maintained
And when our fields were simply bogs
It started raining cats and dogs
After a drought of half an hour
There was a most refreshing shower
And then the queerest thing of all
A gentle rain began to fall

Ironically I think it rained during the day once while we were there!

We did go round it! Not keen on the main product though, thought the proper peated stuff (Ledaig in 10 and 15 year versions?) was far superior. Sadly Tobermory gets used primarily for blending with other whiskies and I find it rather bland.... especially when compared to the likes of Ardbeg!
