What makes a hitherto loving father jump off a 4th floor balcony with his two kids in his arms?

It might not be acceptable to feel sorry for the man but I can't begin to imagine how depressed the bloke is now. Clearly he was mentally ill.

Unfortunately depression is on the increase - a by product of modern society, especially with the media continuously presenting us with what we should be aiming to be like, what to buy, how to live, how our relationships should be conducted & where to live.
Yes Talbot many people treat it with contempt and people with a mental illness are often persecuted against and stigmatised, making things worse by making those people feel alienated.
It is very sad for those affected.

I dont know what was going through his mind but he definitly felt there's was no other way for him, but as everyone else I just cant fathom it out why he has done this to his children, I myself have just gone through a divorce, but I was lucky and got joint custudy after a long fight I dont know what would of happened to me if I didnt get it. If I was england I would of never of got joint custudy, its time the law got changed for equal rights for fathers unless it can be proven that they are unfit

I will offer you this. confised

I've been here over a year and recently we had a quite a throng of people who came over to visit with their Chinese wives, for Christmas and New Year, maybe 10 blokes, all Brits.

I've never seen so many wired people in my life. Well I probably have but I never noticed it before. These people would be Billy Normal in the UK, but they're absolutely frantic in everything they do, everything they want to do, no patience, no tolerance and no sense of perspective. They drove me fookon' mental. NOW!! NOW!! NOW!! NOW!! rage rage rage rage

Jesus, kid cool it a bit....

Personally I think it's only going to get worse. Get out now while you can!!

Fair point Kev, but don't you think that with the current boom in China and to a lesser extent India both countries will become increrasingly westernised with all that goes with it, such as consumerism, borrowing, families moving away, relationship breakdowns and that will all lead to heightened levels of stress & depression. I'd like to think that the balance between capitalism & communism would see an ideal society but I'm not to sure.

Right you'd better put me down as a pessimist.

Very possibly Mr Lord, but not in your or my lifetime. The main reason I noticed the difference is because, even though this country is painted as the evil economic demon of the world with it's cheap labour,it's defective product, it's red toothed communism and it's absolute determination not to prostitute itself to the west, the pace of life is very gentle, the socio economic situation is stable and the people are very fatalistic and realistic. They also don't have a camera down their throats all the time. Their work ethic is admirable and their expectations are realistic.

Let's face it, in the UK we're all working for a house that the Government will take 40% of when you die. Few people do better than that. Here, they are working for the family, not the status symbol.
