... and North Korea are you expected to toe the party line and be denounced as a traitor if you don't blindly support whatever you're told to support.

...just clearing up a few loose ends to get the 'full picture'..... I'm persistent like that, you'll find it irritating.

I need clarification please....

Is it possible to be a 'real' fan and listen to the game on the radio at the same time??
phew, had me worried about my loyalty for a minute there.

Which means, in layman's terms? If you go to the games, you want what?

I'm genuinely confused as to what you're implying. I'm not around on the Bunker enough to understand. sctatchinghead

Of course its possible however what isn't possible is to have a more or even equal opinion on the game in comparison to someone who actually watched it. Forming an opinion from Poolsworld commentary is like basing your political views entirely on what is said at a individual politicial party conference.

No matter how bad things get, it's seen as some form of treachery to criticise the team is what he means.

It's possible to be a 'follower of the clubs fortunes' if done all the time, but it's no more supporting the club than someone who says they support Man U by watching them on Sky. I don't deny the love is there as is the wish.....but without those who actually turn up, turning up, there wouldn't be a club.

I’ve been going to matches regularly only since 2000, so I can’t make the comparisons some of you can. But even in that seven years I can see that a lot has changed at the club, and I think the changes go to the root of this argument about whether you should or shouldn’t support the team no matter what.
When we came back to the NE we planned to go and see Hartlepool play just the once for old times’sake. As it turned out we couldn’t do it just once because, the way the team was playing, you couldn’t keep away. For most of the matches this season, we’d not have been tempted to go back at all never mind buy season tickets.
Then, there was a team playing for each other and for the town (us). Now there doesn’t seem to be a team at all ….it’s just 11 men playing football, and a Club that seems to think nothing matters but financial efficiency.
Well, financial efficiency is very good, but it doesn’t create teams, and it excludes supporters. Why should supporters continue to be loyal to a Club which takes more and more of their money in the name of a team that used to represent fans but no longer does? You can’t change the nature of something entirely and then hope to pull the wool over people’s eyes by calling it by the same name.
To me, the team that’s playing now isn’t a Hartlepool team and it doesn’t behave like one. There are still players in it of the old Hartlepool ‘mould’ and they do their damnedest, but the odds are against them. In Chris Turner’s day, everyone used to be impressed by the team spirit. Now they’re not. There’s a huge difference between now and the days when Tinks, Ritchie, Micky Barron, Darren Clarke et al used to play together…they seemed to read each others’ minds effortlessly.
I used to think there couldn’t be another team (in the real sense of the word) like them in the country, and you would have supported them even if they lost most weeks.
There has to be a reason for support. Either because it's 'your' team, or because the team are playing well. Neither of those things is true at the moment

OK we know you mean Darrel Clarke.
I always maintained he was one of the big reasons for the famous dressing room spirit we had a few years ago when everybody wanted to play for Pools for the Craic. For that alone he was worth his salary, even if he didn't play much in his latter seasons here. The rest come across as a pretty bland bunch of fookers.

Every dressing room needs its 'characters' ..... just like any work place. We seem to have the football equivalent of librarians convention.

Clarkey truly is a top bloke, and deserving of his place as a player we will all remember for years and years to come.
There have been probably more gifted players, but some of those have been a disgrace (John Gallacher anyone)? and more recently Thomas Butler for wanting out at the first signs of things getting bumpy.
Where are the Paul Bakers, the Brian Honours, the Micky Barrons? It has to be said only Humphreys of the current playing squad could be classed as a true Pooly (we can't include Barron because he ain't playing).
