Notts County are hoping to sign Gavin Strachan and have allowed Paul Mayo to join Darlington on loan.

Peterborough United midfielder Strachan has been in talks with County after failing to make a first-team appearance since late October.

An 18-month deal has been lined up and Magpies boss Ian McParland hopes to finalise the switch on Thursday.

Blue Square Premier side Oxford United are also keen on Strachan, but he is expected to remain in League football with the Magpies.

Strachan is too good for Blue Square Premier.

Strachan is a good League 2 player at worst.

He is solid but not spectacular.

I also rated Mr Strachan he done a very good job, all that infamous dirty work if you will, and was only noticed by the people who had actually played football at a reasonable level.

Plus his set peices were awesome, nearly as good as that left back we used to have...what was his name again!!
