we have got in amongst the leftovers some homemade raspberry vodka, blackberry vodka and sloe gin which still has the fruit in.The normal crack is to sieve the fruit out and put it inthe freezer for a couple of hours then blitz it and use it as ice in the next drink, potent as fook.
anyway I'm off tomorra so what next.

Ditto!

I hadn't drank gin for nearly 20 years til I had it with bitter lemon last summer and now I can't get enough of the stuff. Plymouth Gin is the best I reckon.

You know how old I am...

The only time I'd previously drank gin was when we went on a bus trip from 6th form to Teesside Uni, but instead of going around the Uni we found a pub near McDonalds and sat and got lashed on happy hour prices all afternoon before staggering back to the corporation buses that the college had laid on for us.

Remember?

yep.fruit has to be freshly picked/bought,quality of the vodka doesn't really matter that much but we normally use a mix of absolut and a supermarket own label one.takes about 75g of sugar to a half bottle(can use more but not less),halves seem to work best, enough fruit to about a third of the bottle.then leave until the sugar has dissolved normally at least 6 weeks but the longer the stronger!
so far we've done blackberry, raspberry, sloe, cherry tomatoe and chilli. would recommend the chilli!!

I hadn't drank gin until I was round my mates house the other year and had ran out of beer, so he gave me a gin and bitter lemon which went down a bit too easy.

He also makes his own sloe gin which is canny, I think he picks the sloe berrys from along the Hart to Haswell walkway somewhere

Bendick's Gin is really good. comes in a fancy stone bottle.

With tonic and a slice of cucumber  it's really refreshing (well the first one).

Ah, yes? Mr.G's was the place in question. I'm pretty sure it was a gay bar. The feat was repeated the following year during my resits.

You were older than 14 then though!

Going to the pub instead of visiting the university talk ins must be a bit of a tradition that is what we did as well

I think that we were in the Dickens Inn or something similiar and after a few beers we were getting a bit rowdy which caused the manager to come over, one of the lads then had a brain wave and said it was his birthday and the manager then proceded to bring out a cheap bottle of fizz for him.

We did the same when we went to visit Newcastle Uni as well, but this time at the Strawberry pub

I think I'll have been 17, which makes it half a lifetime ago, which can be described as "nearly 20 years ago"!

Mr. G's!

It wasn't gay when I was in there!

Your appearance there must have been what gave the manager the idea to turn it into a gay bar then

similair to salty's stuff ( but 2 litres!....respect to your liver ) but made sparingly in small batches cos it knocks your head off. so we do it in half bottles
but we use white caster sugar,if your using a half bottle you need to fill it about a quarter full of sugar.then add your chosen fruit but we leave it whole no messing just pick it and wash it and bang it in the bottle.then top up with chosen spirit.bacardi doesn't work very well, vodka and gin work well.
leave in cupboard until sugar has dissolved will take minimum 4 weeks.open and treat with respect!!
now then if you want to take it to the next level then use to make the jamie oliver water melon thing.
this works like this, get the largest water melon you can find, under ripe is best.make a hole in the top big enough to take a funnel.place funnel in to melon. then pour in a small glass of vodka in to melon repeat several times a day over a few days, the most we managed was 7 days or it gets too soggy.
split water melon into portions, and watch everyone try to walk straight after it.works with neat vodka, bacardi etc perfect start to a night out!!
