Post subject: I really do think Wilson's gone mental

Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson wants his squad to target promotion, starting with Saturday's trip to Northampton.

Pools are 15th in League One but Wilson feels just a couple of wins could place them in amongst the promotion pack.

He told BBC Tees: "We want to push for the teams above us because we've seen already we're quite capable of competing with these type of teams.

"We shouldn't really be where we are in terms of the games we've played so far and how we've played."

Perhaps he should get his priorities set on keeping us up confised

With 60 odd points to play for and 8 separating us and 6th it's hardly inconceivable, look at Walsall's run with our failure to keep it tight away from home it's looks unlikely but the season is just over half way gone. We don't want to get sucked in obviously but I think there is has been a certain element of over reaction from some people and criticism of Wilson has nearly reached levels were it is as over the top as it was before November 18th last season, and look what happened then!

The season could still very much go either way or stay somewhere in the middle

I think a lot of the worry is because this season bears a remarkable similarity to the season before last. And we know how that one ended up! :uhoh:

It's nothing like that season we are far stronger. With Boyd and Porter out nearly all season we didn't have any sort of goal threat, Jesus at times Lee Bullock played up front with Chris Llewellyn  Our top scorer scored 7 goals we have three players on more than that now.

We need to sort our away form quickly but it's hardly panic stations yet, we have a good enough side to put a run together. I have a good feeling about the next month with Ben and Joel back.

I do apologise Walsall won on Tuesday it is indeed 11 points.

My point is still valid though, this season is still young and our home fixtures are much more favourable in this half of the season plus we have already played away at Swansea, Forest, Carlisle, Leeds, and Orient.

Our away form is a worry but comparisons at this stage to 2005/2006 are a bit daft.

We have nothing to fear except fear itself.

And staircases.

we'll finish about sixth/seventh bottom, unless we cut out the errors at the back. Then we could surprise a few people, but despite scoring regularly home and away we just can't keep them out. I have to say I think it's generally easier to sort the defence out, than it is to get a side not scoring goals to suddenly become prolific. In other words, Pools have an easier problem to solve than Port Vale or Bristol Rovers, who don't score many.
And probably Luton, who might not score again this season if they sell any more players.
