When we win L2 in May, what will the feeling be amongst Poolies?

Will it be a feeling of congratulations on the promotion and title, and pleased to have us both back in the same League, derbies to look forward too etc?

Or will it be a feeling of bitter jealousy, rage, and petty name calling, because yet again we've won a Title and you've never won fook all?

I suspect maybe mixed feelings from most....

More chance of platting fog sunshine

While you are banging your big gums again, which makes you feel the proudest (league titles apart) the season spent in the amateur league or going into administration because your club is a pisspoor outfit that couldn't organise a brewery day out?

I think if I had to put money on a team I would choose Mk Dons

If you look at this years League 2 compared to last years it is piss easy with only a handful of teams half decent. Last year you had the likes of Walsall, Swindon, Bristol Rovers and ourselves.

Getting back to the orginal question; I don't think Darlo win win the league but I'll be suprised if they don't go up. Penney is a decent manager by any standards and he seems to have the team performing consistantly. I'm with MJ, my feelings depend on how Pools perform not Darlington. I don't cheer when I hear they're getting stuffed and I'm not gutted if they win, the only exception being when they're playing us.

Next season, should they go up, we'll have our derby game to look forward to and I don't care which end of the Pools/Darlo divide you are, there's no bigger game for either set of fans.

But you'll be jealous if we get (yet another) title, yes? If not you, plenty of your chums will be.

League Two contenders for top three are:

MK Dons - seem certs to go up, too much quality in their ranks, big crowds etc, Paul Ince factor, they'll get more than their fair share of favourable decisions from officials so I reckon they're title favourites

Peterborough - ditto MK Dons , they can also get big crowds when they're doing well

Darlo - good manager at the helm, they've found some consistency this season which could well be enough to get third place

Rotherham - are looking like a decent side (although they lost to a resurgent Rochdale on Saturday).Mark Robbins seems like a good manager.

Chesterfield - could be in amongst it if Jack Lester can hit form - he's easily too good for League Two.

The others up there don't have the strength in depth (or at least quality in depth) to bother the top three over a full season.

I don't want you to win the title for no other reason that it will spell the start of months of tiresome trophy cabinet comments. It's not like we've gone on and on about anything now is it? Besides, why should we be jealous of lower league teams who win trophys? Horden have a huge collection of Northern Premier League and Wearside league championships. Should we be envious of them too?

I'd add Hereford, Rochdale and Shrewsbury into the mix for auto promotion, plus Stockport if they can put a bit of form together.

It's quite open at the minute, might look a bit clearer in January.

Can darlow maintain their start this season though, they don't usually!

I'd really like to see Rochdale go up, they make Darlington look like they've recently been promoted.

If you can just replace that WHEN by an IF, then yeah, sure. Everything you said. You'll get a quick well done from me. Then I'll go straight back to congratulating/moaning at/having nothing new to say about Pools.

it would be good for you to win the title as it may give your waning owner a little boost
i look forward to the derbies as the last two we out played you and even when you came to the vic with eleven full backs
it will look nice on your CV but will matter little else after the event
what you should be looking at is staying above pools for the same length of time we have towered over you
and at least you will get some atmosphere in the ground when we do visit
but i think you may miss out on the title but at least you should be higher than your usual 8 th place

When we won promotion earlier this year were you and your fellow supporters pleased for us or grieving that you had lost a local derby, jealous that we would be playing at a higher level or pleased we did not win the title?

Mr Quakerz - Do you like setting yourself up for a fall? Darlo are doing well at the moment but a lot can change very quickly over the xmas period........

I rarely think about Darlo either. It's simply not important. They are an irrelevance in the day to day life of a Poolie because they play in a different division. When we were playing Leeds in front of 28,000 they were playing Rotherham in front of less that 4000. We played Forest in front of 17500 and they were at Dagenham for 1888 people.

We simply move in better company.

Gentlemen please, this is really rather restrained and cordial.

For me I look out for their results and like to see them lose whether they're a non-league outfit or what.

I don't hate them as like you all say I look out for Pools first and foremost but I want to retain the gap over the old foe.

Penney has done well to now, but how will his team fare during the coming months - they have no cash for new signings and will ned to rely on topping up his squad with loan signings that will cost him no wage - the team does have a shape about it but he is clearly not happy with it's ability to gain promotion hence the loan signings - it will take only one bad loan signing to screw it up for them.

The problems they face are a strong MK Dons, an affleunt Peterborough, and Hereford, Rotherham, Chester and Chesterfield who all are canny sides with Rotherham and Chesterfield the two that stand out here. Rotherham have had financial issues in the past and seem through them and Chesterfield are a very good side

Darlington have their own problems coming up though - they have a very very difficult fee weeks ahead.

Morecambe (A), Chester (H), Lincoln (A), Rotherham (H), MK Dons (H), and then Rochdale and Barnet both away in the New Year.

Moreecambe have some good players.

Chester are up there in the mix and it will be a very tight game

Lincoln are struggling but it is always one of those grounds and can pull a win out of the bag

Rotherham and MK Dons - two hard games right after each other - i can see them losing both.

After this and deflated they have a tricky journey to Rochdale who are another good side and then on the back of this a trip to Barnet which on the end of a possible 3 or 4 consecutive defeats could be a lot trickier than it seems.

I agree with the other poster - the new year will really see if they are still up there and who is up there with them

Yep.

I always look for their result after ours and hope that they've lost.

I probably always will.

Well for as long as they continue to scrape an existence that is.

I get the feeling that it may well be make or break for them this season.

No promotion will see them nailed for the salary cap next season and the chairman's money will have run out so players will be heading for the exit doors to pay for the stadium maintenance.

Aye, I must admit to checking that they've been soundly thrashed which for many years has usually been the case. They seem to be getting a bit of consistency together now though and have had largely decent results so far (note: it's a marathon not a sprint!). Like fans of other clubs who've done absolutely nothing for many a year (Rochdale spring to mind for some reason) I don't begrudge them a bit of success after they've had to put up with so much dross for so long.

A long way to go though, so any talk of winning the league clearly has to be taken as deluded at this stage.

if, and its a big if btw, darlo won the league I'll hold my hands up and say I'd be jealous as fook. It would've been the best thing ever to have won it ourselves last year and I was sick that we didn't....soz, just being honest

To be fair though, we've had a load of "Mind The Gap" type posts on our boards for about 5 years now though. (I'm not saying we haven't posted wind ups too, as I've done so myself)

No, No it's been more 8 years than 5. I mean the year 2000 was the last time we had to look up a league table to locate the Loids.

I never really get bothered by your results when we aren't in the same league, it's an irrelevance to us, sure I'll laugh my tits off still when I hear that you are 3-0 down before half time at for example just for arguments sake Rochdale but its not really important.

Back to that for example Rochdale game, Penney was doing his best impression of a bad loser after match blaming the ref. I have just watched 'The Big League' on Sky.

From the highlights the loids fell behind to two perfectly fair but utterly fourth division goals, then 'dale were awarded as scandalous a penalty decision as you will ever see. Honestly it was atrocious, funny but atrocious. Had it been awarded against Pools it's possible my head may have exploded to make it 3-0 (before half time may I add). Then the Loids got a nearly as atrocious penalty in a proper bit of shite ref 'evening' things up. Then White was sent off, second booking barely a foul, not sure what he'd done before though.

So by my estimation Rochdale scored two fair but painfully fourth division goals to the loids nil thus fairly taking the points. Yes the refs are shite but they all are (or most).

What is your problem Mr Penney!?
