circa 1976:

I remember pinching empties from the back of the Co-op off licence on Chatham Road and taking them back in at the front. Both Lowcocks and Guthries.

As kids, aged about 8, we'd get the bus to St Aidans, walk down Oxford Street, over the steelworks bridge and all along the front to Seaton. There was always six of us and one hot day, dying of thirst we pooled all our money to buy a bottle of Lowcocks with those big black rubbery tops....we weren't strong enough to open it and had to carry it all the way home  ...
Just a thought, but would you be happy letting your 8 year old do the same trip today.....?

I was talking about this yesterday. At age 8, I was given the responsibility of taking my little 5 year old brother the three miles to school. Imagine that happening now.

Number 6, Seaton....walk from St Aidans, Crimdon.....walk from the Brus through the tunnel, Docks ....walk from the Yorkshire lassie and if you were going to the headland you got extra money for the number 1... most activities consisted of throwing stones..... sctatchinghead

Can you still get it in a glass bottle? My uncle used to sell it in his shop, but has only sold pop in plastic bottles for some time. Pop out of a plastic bottle just does not taste the same sctatchinghead
