...play togther in the same team? They both have a similar style of play and I do feel we lack the wiser head in midfield to hold it togther. One midfielder on the ramapge fair enough, but not both, which is why teams seem to be going through us in the middle of the park when they both play.

I'd agree, but if Lids is to continue/begin to be a more attacking midfielder, then i would play McCunnie as the holding midfielder as I think he gives us more mobility than Boland

On Tuesday Sweeney had a reasonable game, his best for ages but maybe he is a luxury we cannot afford away from home. He doesn't run games and often leaves gaps. I like the Boland / Liddle combination but that is heavily relient on Liddle taking responsability and getting forward......

I've come to the conclusion that if Porter, Brown and Monkhouse are playing, the Sweeny/Liddle midfield is the best. Anything else and one should step aside for Boland.

The reasoning is that the style of play we adopt with lots of skilful attackers means the opposition see a lot less of the ball, hence we don't need a midfield general like Boland to pick up the pieces.

It was a Boland kind of game yesterday, if he had started I think we would have done better.

IF... we're going forward and the opposition let us, they are OK together, but all this charging forward at breakneck speed leaves us vulnerable. A feature of games this season is the way quite a number of teams have opened us up with one pass, not going over the top, but through our midfield.

Liddle and Boland for me, McCunnie has done nowt wrong mind and I think he can go in there, if we don't find a place for him I think we'll lose him.
Sweeney is a luxury we can't afford while everything is so tight.
