Right.

Problem.

My youngest would rather like a Nintendo Wii games console this Christmas, as would her Dad.

At the moment, these are like rocking horse dung. Everywhere seems sold out, those that DO have 'em are charging way over the top because obviously they know they are at a premium.

I do have a bit of a plan...a family friend is going to The States in the next few days and could probably get me one. The dollar/pound thingy is good at the moment...

Question 1) Does an American Wii work OK in this country? Do you just need an adapter?

Question 2) Why didn't I get one 3 months ago?
cos you are male?? I got one ages ago

I asked a mate this last week. I have been told (don't shoot me if it is wrong) that British games will play on an American Wii if they support 1080i/p screen resolution. I think the console itself will work fine if you only have American games.

Our friends kid wanted one. We went through to Currys at teesdie park for them and paid for it. They guaranteed that we would have 1 before christmas.
Curry's in Hartlepool were not helpful

Regarding the US one if its anything like the playstation the UK games will not play on the
American and vice versa (Same as DVD's)

hope this helps

Only have to change the plug for full UK compliance, for the USA version I would have had to buy Americam copies of the games etc.

Quality, ADG, thanks everyone!

Careful it doesn't annexe your playstation!

You can get the UK mains adaptor on e-bay for less than a tenner or a charging station from amazon.co.uk for less than a tenner as well.

If I went along the same route, would the information be in English (on the actual console) and would the games be in English?

You see I studied French at school so I'm not sure how much that would help me when reading German sctatchinghead

Chips - In town and Middlesbrough have orders in every Wednesday of Nintendo Wii's to purchase, The only problem is you have to pay for 3 games with it, Which can be quite pricey! But if your that desperate, I'd give Chips a ring
You can get the contact numbers off there website : http://www.chipsworld.com/

Theres also http://www.play-asia.com/ which could be a good place to buy any games from

Failing that you could also try eBay, But expect to pay over the odds!

Good luck with it

Good question Mr ECG and I can give you the answer in reverse, when the Wii came out I bought an American game at a boot sale and tried to play it on my brand new Wii. The system updated and crashed never to work again this was 3 days after I bought it, Nintendo laughed when I explained what I had done and sent me a new one via next day delivery.

My top 5 games for you to play ECG
1. Resi Evil 4
2. Trauma Center 2
3. Eledees
4. Fifa 08
5. Medal of Honor

For your daughter
1. EA Playground
2. Mario Party 8
3. WarioWare: Smooth Moves
4. Crash of the Titans
5. Rayman Raving Rabbids

£279 for a Wii on its own?! That's a disgrace. I've had one since early this year, wish I played it more often like. I paid about £300 for three games, an extra remote/nunchuk and charging docks.

If you want ideas for which games to get, let me recommend:
Wii Play (free remote, good learner games and fun things for the kids)
WarioWare Smooth Moves (good for the kids too, but absolutely hilarious/mental)
Excite Truck (never a better racing game)
Zelda: Twilight Princess (if you have a week to kill)
Mario Strikers (football... nuff said)
Guitar Hero III (Wii remote slots into guitar peripheral, play rock songs and the like)

And get yourself some Joytech Power Stations so you don't have to buy batteries. That thing can eat them up sometimes.

I received a special offer thingy in the post today from Blockbuster. With a Wii for 161.99, presumably they have stocks, or do they?

Has "I need a Wii" taken over from "I'll have a P please Bob" as the nation's favourite excretion-related crap joke?
