Losing at home to Shrewsbury a couple of weeks before Jon Daly scored 7 in that one week.

Only time I've ever wanted to walk out 15 minutes early.

Doncaster as Mr MJ mentions was probably the worst, but one or two games versus Macclesfield spring to mind too.

This one takes some beating and took weeks to get over the pain.

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=3663

As for a home game it has to be the game against Plymouth on the last game/home game of the season.

Check out that Crewe midfield though! Neil Lennon, Robbie Savage and Danny Murphy. Crewe will have been a third tier team at the time as well!

How come Mark Rivers scored a penalty but wasn't in their matchday squad? sctatchinghead

I'm only young so I don't remember the bad old days but this game narked me enough that I still remember it. An awful, awful game in which Macclesfied sucker punched us twice late on. I remember Easter getting a lot of stick off the crowd that day.

That's one of the Macc games I was referring to Mr Kibber.

The other one was a bit more recent, towards the end of the season (Friday night?) and when we lost we thought we'd blown the play-offs (but still managed to make them in the end).

Home is probably the aforementioned 6-0 home defeat to Donny.

Away is the 4-3 defeat to Mansfield. We were deservedly leading 3-1 with 5 minutes to go. I've never seen any team anywhere capitulate so badly. We just stood still and let them score. I still have nightmares about it.

I was there and it upset me too. rage

The capitulation managed to overshadow what was probably Lord Lormor's best ever performance for us too. banghead

1989 away at Cambridge we lost 6-0 a few of the players travelling to the game together were involved in an accident but went on to play (I use the term ‘play’ pretty loosely). I am sure John Beck was the Cambridge manager at the time – they blitzed us.
1996 away at Barnet we lost 5-1 Steve Jones was in goal and had just been told that his contract was not going to be renewed – not the greatest motivation, he could just about be bothered to pick the ball from the net but wasn’t inclined to reach for it until it had got there. Stevie Howard played central defence for us that day (if MJ has his facts correct).
1983 away at Colchester (you can tell I am an exiled supporter living in the south!) lost 4-1Gary Wright was in goal for us, wasn’t he a Radio 1 DJ – he certainly played like one that day.

I could go on but it’s too depressing.

I've seen plenty pre-2000 but this one always springs to mind:

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=3835

This was a massive game, as we had been dragged into the mire with a run of 'form' that had led to the departure of Mick Tait, Hull had been bottom most of the season but had started to win a few games. A real six pointer.

I always remember Brian Honour (who was joint caretaker boss with Paul Baker) knocking over crosses for Stuart Irvine in the pre match warm up the goal was unguarded and he was no more than ten yards out and he was actually missing the target all of the time   I knew it was going to be a long afternoon.

We were 4-0 down after 40 minutes and Hull had missed at least three one on ones, never have I been as convinced that we were conference bound...... enter Chris Turner and the rest in history clappp

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=3597 I knew it would be here somewhere, was'nt sure of the year.

Plymouth got promoted on this day if I remember rightly, rink end was covered in flags inflatable banana's, beachballs, proper party, and we handed it to them on a plate !

It might have been the last game of the season or Pools last home game of the season rage

It was the last game cos we lit a bonfire on the Millhouse Terrace and burned our Gibson Out banners and our season tickets.

In fact people were coming along the terrace to chuck their season tickets onto the fire and hoying them down from the stand too.

It burnt for a good 10 minutes or more til some jobsworth ste-ward came and insisted it was put out.

Thats what I love about the Pools stewards always on the ball. You won't see them letting a fire burn on the terrace for more than ten minutes rolfl

Yeovil at home 2005/6. They turned up without a point an took all three. Boyd got crocked and no-one on the pitch in a blue shirt had a clue what was going on. I knew then we were going down and it was only September.

This one always sticks in the memory: http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/itmc_view_match.asp?oid=3576.

I'm sure Reading were 4 up inside the first 15 minutes before even they gave up trying.

anyway, ad nauseum, but one that always sticks in my memory for all round inept crapness was Hereford at home 82/83, they were bottom and absolutely shite, but we plumbed new depths of crap ineptitude, and they beat us 1-0 with a pot shot with 4 minutes to go.
The Pools players should have been forced to do 100 hours community service each after that match.

I seen us lose 4-0 and 5-1 in successive away games at Barnet. 5-0 at Burnley was awful in 93/94

This was a shocker. Brighton were about to go to the wall and had a fans day of action, fans from all over the country came to the game and saw us play like a bunch of fairies.

Those who are suggesting that the 3-0 home defeat against Shrews was the worst ever performance are having a laugh. We battered them in the first half, two late goals in the last 10 minutes flattered the shrews. I'm not saying it was great but I could easilly name 25 worse performances than that......

We were far worse in the first game of season the other year Pools 0-2 Bradford, also the Yeovil match as Kevin has mentioned. Anyone remember the Hartlepool 1-4 Macclesfield when Turner put Dibble in goal, also Blackpool 4-0 Pools had to be the worst performaance under Mr Neale Cooper......

that Brighton away match was a fix, we had no chance, and all done with the Football League's approval.
And they can fu-cking sue me if they like, but they can't win because my statement is true.
Not proud of it but I slapped a Southampton fan after the match in a Hove pub, after he said that it's great that a "shit northern team like Hartlepool" will go down instead of Brighton.

I keep getting rminded about more and more games I thought I'd forgotten!!!

I'm sure I remember Parmo arguing with someone at the terraces for that Hull game after Parmo laughed when they suggested we still had a chance when it was 3-0.

The other bloke left at half time........

3 'performances' stick in my mind....

The 6-0 home defeat by Donny was the most gutless performance ever by a Pools team.Doncaster weren't even that good themselves, the team just had no confidence or spirit whatsoever.Whenever Pools put in a bad game nowadays, i look back to that match and think just how bad we were and how far we have come since then.

The sit-down protest that day was more than justified.

The 4-0 defeat at Darlo in 1991 was bad as well.I fooked off at half-time and was back in the boilermakers club before the match finished

The worst one for me, in our period of success under IOR, must be the Wrexham match when we got beat 6-4.The only plus point that day was our attackers.Dimi, the defence and the midfield put in a terrible performance that day, it was that bad it was comical to watch.Juan Ugarte has never been the same since that game though  And didn't we sign Chris Llewellyn on the back of his showing in that game? sctatchinghead

I'm only young so I don't remember the bad old days but this game narked me enough that I still remember it. An awful, awful game in which Macclesfied sucker punched us twice late on. I remember Easter getting a lot of stick off the crowd that day.

I remember that well.

Easter missed one or two open nets that day, didn't he?

I've been trying to track down a really bad performance that I thought I remembered, via ITMC.
I thought it was a 4-0 home defeat by Workington the season they were relegated.
But on checking the nearest I can find is a 2-0 home defeat by them, when they finished bottom in 75/76. They were relegated the next season, when they finished bottom again.
We had just lost away to Cambridge 4-0 and Northampton 5-2 on successive days, and then the Workington defeat another 3 days later, probably around the Easter weekend.
The match would have been my first for almost a year, I had just got back from 9 months in Oman, serving my Queen & Country, lying on a beach every afternoon, and forgetting just how bad we were then.
