Anybody eaten out recently?

We went to Marco Polo's last night, group of 10, for a monday night it was reasonably busy, another group of 10 or so and about four or so tables of couples.

Speed was reasonable, my starter was cracking, my main course was good, overall I'd rate it 7 out of 10.

I've just booked a table there for about 16 of us (lads who go to the match together plus wives) in December- I've always enjoyed it in the past.

It's never my first choice, I'd go as far as saying I find their food a little boring, chicken in sauce A, chicken in sauce B etc, but to give them their dues, they've never sent out a bad meal, unlikely another restaurant I've mentioned recently!

It was a sort of compromise choice for us but not my first choice!

There's a couple of the lads that won't eat chinky, indian, owt spicy or what they consider to be "fancy stuff".

I reckon Marco's does the best T-bone in town so I'm happy if we go there.

Farrar's, Krimo's, Portofino's very good. The Japanese was good, and a good laugh as well.
Never been in the Thai one on the Marina yet, although I'd have to persuade the missus first.
Poppadum's takes some beating, mind

Get yourself to the Thai place Mr P, I would recomend it like. Give the tapas place a bash as well that is also canny

Now you lot may wish to put this comment into some kind of context......... , but......I always find the portions at Italian places to be very small.

I dont think I have left one feeling full. And they arent cheap either.

Like I said.....you may wish to put the above into some kind of perspective

Well give the Tapas place a miss too then.

I've been once, and while the food was nice enough, the portions were criminal.

The Thai place does well nice food, but it is overpriced- especially the wine list, it's about 3 or 4 quid a bottle more in there than anywhere else for the same stuff.

Criminal is a bit harsh, that's the idea of tapas, lots of smaller dishes making up your meal.

Aye, but to get anywhere like enough food you've gotta get about half a dozen or more dishes each which at 4 or 5 quid a pop soon racks up.

It'd be ok for a snack.

Marco Polo's has never been a favourite of mine but can't comment recently as I haven't been for about a year. I would normally choose to go somewhere else instead.

Well I would but......I wouldn't want to to feel obliged and all that...... soo....

No, but for those who wish to venture out this way, check out these people:

oasishongkong.com

Kind of Ryanair for long haul to Canada and Hong Kong. Cheap. Note that the airport taxes in England are DOUBLE what they are in Hong Kong. Fare 1380 Hong Kong Dollars, taxation1198 Hong Kong Dollars. Embarrassing.

Whatever it is it's a bloody sight cheaper.

Average wage of a Chinese person?? 562 quid a year, tax on flying out of Britain?? 80 quid. What do you get for it?? Fook all.

Robbing, stealing, cheating avaricious, spendthrift bastards. I am actively discouraging any Chinese people from holidaying in the UK.

Apart from those in my cockle picking gangs of course...... bbolt

I know humour is very subjective, and you'll probable tell me too lighten up a little, but jokes about cockle pickers don't make me laugh, even allowing for the 3 years since the event.
