We really should be looking to win this at home to a newly promoted side.

6 points in next 2 home sets us up for a very tough one at FGR

Southend was supposed to be a ‘tough one’…let’s see.

Southend was a 'tough one'. We got very lucky.

Yeah Altrincham was a tough one too before the game.
And I dare say that on form every team we face will be saying the same thing about us.
Saturday was a great test of character for us and we came through it, if we keep showing the same energy, drive, and commitment we'll do ok against anyone imo.

It should be 6 pts but there's a Megga scycological Barrier to these back to back home games fixtures.
And its normally the first game we mess it up.

Hope I'm wrong n going of history n fact to much.

Anyhow no more than 7000 fans for the 2 games suggests there's still a non takeover bad feeling in the air.

mind you braintree, boreham wood and boston are not exactly fixtures to get fans back. if the team is going to do something this season it needs to get back to back wins against mid table sides.

I love those matches…it’s all about amassing points, not just the ‘top of the table’ clashes.

We have a majority of 'new to HUFC ' players that have, so far, not shown the frailties of previous seasons and I expect them to do to B/wood what they did to Altrincham.

2-0 to Pools provided SG reverts to the winning team line-up!

Gate 3750 with 35 from down south.

Think that is a fair point- a lot of the negative damage has hopefully been eliminated.

Also have a manager with a clear plan of how he wants to play, with the vast majority of players that he has brought to the club himself

From what I've seen and read, Boredom Wood have a big, physical team of the type that Pools have traditionally struggled against. They are also full of confidence after gaining promotion last season so it's not going to be a walkover on Saturday by any stretch of the imagination. However, on the assumption that SG can and does select his best available starting XI - and preferred formation - I'm going for a 2-1 home win courtesy of a late winner.

it certainly will be a different challenge but a similar one to braintree who would have given pools of the past a good going over. we are not a team of mild mannered nice lads but a sarll type of team who can play football as well as the dirry side of the game.

Tough game tomorrow.
Apart from their relegation season,BW have always been around the play offs.
Signed some really good players in the summer, including Luke Norris,Tom White & have now added the excellent,Zac Brunt their ranks.

It Deffo won't be easy.

But this fixture will give us a bit of Fact of whether we genuinely good enough for a promotion push.
Stay tuned till 5pm Saturday for factual answers.

as they say there are no easy games and i,d guess they will not be overconfident of taking 3 points off us either.

Due to England playing this weekend (did anyone else not notice/ know about this?), it looks like DAZN are allowing us that have paid them to watch the match at 3pm. I'll be in Wales...so should not be impacted by any international timing/ VPN restrictions.

I note that there is now an expectation on the board that Pools will win this.. a far cry from our recent pessimissm.

Still a pub team, with about a dozen followers in attendance. Got to be beating the likes of these at home- if we seriously are to have any realistic expectations of having a successful season.

Come On Pools - Nowt to beat!

you say that but there is a good chance of their manager having a bigger playing budget than grayson has.

Fun film fact... The on the buses film, the outside shots were done in boreham wood. I'm seriously tempted to go to the away fixture and get a photo outside stan butlers house.

An entirely predictable, very difficult game today, BW are a decent outfit and threatened to play Pools off the park at times. They certainly didn't need the helping hand of surely one of the worst referees seen at the Vic for several years - but they certainly benefited from it.

Having said that, it seemed that Pools actually benefitted from being down to ten men as the players looked significantly more motivated than they were at 11 v 11. Despite BH having an extra man and clearly being the better side their finishing was absolutely awful and Pools could easily have nicked all three points if not for the antics of the match referee. Cartwright was MOM for Pools by a country mile although Parkes and Charman both made major contributions towards preserving Pools Pools unbeaten run.

Lessons learned are that the side clearly needs more creativity in midfield and also a mobile striking partner for Reid.

man of the match for me was a toss of the coin between Reiss McNally and Cameron John, they were outstanding. They both gave Cartwright an easier afternoon.

2 or 3 decent new players and we could have a decent season. Couple of injuries and we will be stuffed at the moment.

I just watched the highlights, I think Kouogun was hard done by to be sent off. Didn't look much in it, six of one half a dozen of the other situation.

I know, I saw his interview. Maybe managers have to be a bit circumspect when talking about referee decisions. I'm looking at the footage and there isn't anything in it.

Red card or not, why did he make them take the free kick again after Reid was chasing the keeper down?
It looked a definite red card from where I was although the town end of the MH stand wasn't the best angle.

Yeah, we were wondering that. I don't understand why the referee thought Reid had done anything wrong, but the referee was making ridiculous decisions all afternoon. The one where he awarded us a free kick, then after their player getting treatment changed it to a drop ball. I could go on...

I was certain he'd given us the free kick too then seconds later he blew again indicating the injury and re-started with a drop ball.
He's not the reason we didn't win but he certainly didn't help the game in any way.
Until the sending off our midfield looked half asleep.

Off topic.
That Liverpool goal Dosent happen if I'm Arsenal manager.
Full backs on the posts of every corner or free kick.

Basic Sunday league defending.

Why make an easy game hard.
Crank clueless managers nowadays.

Teams nowadays through all the outfield players into the box at corners meaning if you put players on the posts it would leave players unmarked in the box. To stop that and it’s been mentioned many time leave 2 players one on the halfway line one out wide meaning the opposition would need to leave at least 2 players to cover. This would free up players to stand on the posts at corners.

just never know nowadays why fans get all excited about getting corners. at every level you see players under or overhitting them and not just at pools. it seems a lost simple art of not finding a certain players head from 30 yards away with a stationary ball.
