No idea how they are expected to get a competitive team together for their first game on 23rd August (6 days time). At the end of last week they had 9 players left on the books, including two 18-year-olds and one 17-year-old - and one of the kids was in the process of cancelling his contract because a couple of Championship sides fancy adding him to their U-19 squads.

On top of that "the transfer embargo will remain until all football creditors, including players, staff and HMRC have been paid and payments due under the Sale and Purchase agreement have been satisfied."

So, they need to sign about a dozen free agents in the next few days, then have a couple of days together training as a squad and then a home game against Altrincham! After that, 2 games a week every week till about November as they will already have had 3 games postponed.

Frankly, in football terms it's a fucking farce. They'll be lucky not to get beat by a few rugby scores while they're trying to find their feet. Of course, Pools don't play them till 4th November so they'll be sorted by then banghead

Ah, well, it is what is is. Time to stop being a grinch. I'm glad Morecambe didn't go under.

But I guarantee there'll be hell on at the end of the season when some team gets relegated or misses out on a play-off place on goal difference because a team on the same number of points as them beat Morecambe 10-0. Just hope it isn't Pools...

So if Pools finish 8th on GD it's Morecambes fault.

They aint going to find it easy the first few games they play. i,d guess by the end of this week they,ll have some team ready who might be on short term deals or loans at least. for player its still a job in football and better for some than doing a menial job outside the game. only fear i have is for teams playing against them who might suffer with match official feeling sorry for them and morecambe getting all the 50/50 decisions in there favour.

It's a fair bet some team will be kicking off about this at the end in the season, but there's only a 1 in 23 chance it'll be Pools. I think we're 'probably' safe. No problem if we finish 12th as usual

One advantage they will have is, if they are allowed to recruit normally, they will be able to splash the cash due to no transfer window in our league. Depends of course how quickly they clear debts and other restrictions. Looks like it could be a race against time. I'm pleased it looks as if their future is brighter, especially for the fans, the usual sufferers in these situations.

It would be sensible if the NL gave Morecambe another fortnight to get their new squad up to something like speed, but if their first game is on 6th September they'll have a backlog of 7 fixtures to make up.
Very awkward if there's a lot of winter postponements due to the weather.

Derek Adams has been harshly treated - and the new manager is an 'interesting' choice. But pleased for their fans.

New manager appointed who has "never managed a first team side." Bonkers decision. Looks like they are nailed on for relegation now.

the bbc are going to love the appointment. they are going to get free publicity of wrexham proportions because of it. all they,ll need next is having the first crossdressing pro footballer and a diverse vegan menu for fans to tick more boxes.

Interesting choice of manager and he does have a lot of coaching experience--
I wonder if they are looking to lean into that ethnicity and the possible exposure it gives them--nothing wrong with that--ie is it a strategy like signing Asian players and hoping that drives commercial revenue in that region...

Interesting take on Saturday's fixture from the Alty unofficial site:

"Altrincham find themselves in a strange situation his week.

On paper they have an away fixture at Morecambe but it is far from certain that the game will take place, given the Lancashire club's chaotic situation. Will they have enough players, will the ground be licensed and players insured?

If the game goes ahead, who will be facing Alty? With only five players said to have remained at the club, who will wear their shirts? How do Alty plan to face players whose identities they do not know? What state is the playing surface in?

Is there a ticketing system in place? Are there stewards? Are the showers working? What facilities are available for spectators? All sorts of basic questions remain unanswered."

watched the game and it was totally a hollywood script. a real smash and grab if ever there was. doubt anybody would say after what has happened there they deserved some luck but once the newness wears off i doubt that will happen on a regular basis. does not say much however for all those who put so much faith in training, match fitness and conditioning. if you can play you can play especially if you have a big heart on top.

Quite an interesting situation - they will say they didn't know who they were playing, which players, what the set up would be etc.
