Absolutely stupid. 16 and 17 year olds are still children in the eyes of the law.

The justification is "to bring in more fairness for 16- and 17-year-olds, many of whom already work and are able to serve in the military." Pure bollocks - less than 8% are in full-time work and only a couple of thousand are in the armed forces. Most are still full-time dependents of their parents.

Most 18 to 30s can't be bothered to go and vote because politics is something old people "do", so giving 16 year old people the vote won't make a blind bit of difference.

They will only vote if there is an app for it.

I disagree with this move.
The right to vote for them though should be made to become valid after the next election…so it has no bearing on the next election result.

Some numb nuts advisor will have said to blockhead that they are popular amongst that age group so rather than turning to the country to gauge their opinion they'll try and rush it through the back door....as Snowy says reeks of desperation.

My major concern is those with influence in the system for this age group exercise a strict neutrality on the subject of any politics related issues or topics.

Nothing to stop the tutors/teachers influencing the kids, if the kids see her/him as a likeable person they will vote for what ever party they do.

Sixteen yr old brain not yet fully developed. Although there are some exceptions, by and large they lack the maturity to make such crucial decisions. Of course they are easily influenced which is why Starmer wants them voting: they will be easy to indoctrinate in the current left wing schools and FE colleges. I would like to think that even 16 yr olds will notice what a shit hole Britain is becoming under Starmer (yes and the Tories before them) and cast their vote accordingly but I have my doubts. Feck me this is depressing.

They should make it compulsory to vote like they do in Australia for the over 18s then no one can complain.

Going by current education standards they might get confused by how to mark the ‘X’…..if they can get them out of the bedroom that is…or will they give them on line votes…

They will go their phones and ask AI who they should vote for, an app like ChatGPT.

Reform have an app, the Labour and Conservative have but only associated with their party conferences.

once you had to wait to 21 to vote. so what you knew it was going to happen and cannot remember me and my mates getting uptight about the wait or asking why we had to wait to 21. just one of those things, but seem now youth counts hiher than it once did even when we left school earlier.
