Yeah he's off to York. Think their left back is coming in the opposite direction as part of the fee

If it's Joe Felix, I'd be happy with that.

The rumour is firming up at our end. The usual clues: following the club and chairman on socials etc. If it's true you're getting Cam John as part of the deal then I hope he does well for you guys; solid performer and never let us down even if he looks like Bambi on ice when he runs; we've brought in Kitching and Brookes so were overloaded at LB. Opinion is split as to what Gray will bring to the side and what his best position is but I think he looks a solid addition and has plenty of experience at this level for a young player. We were hoping for a more direct type of wide player (Cleary would have been nice) to complete the squad but we trust Hinshelwood knows what he's doing. Best of luck for the coming season.

Edit: To the poster above, it won't be Super Joe. Nice try.

You've got a good player there if true, reckon Joe will do a good job for you guys, sorry to see him go tbh.

We are desperate for a left back and if Cam John comes as part of the deal I'll be happy with that. He played over 50 games in league 1 for Doncaster and is only 25 years old.

Hate to be negative but he is staying in the national league because that's very much his level. I can't honestly see him being much more than a squad player for you guys. He's excellent in all too frequent flashes, but in all honesty he's very lightweight and prone to running down dead ends, I do think that he is a victim of not knowing what his best position is and is going through so many managers that he can never be properly developed. Kevin Phillips turned him into a world beater for 6/7 games but then he quickly dropped off again.

If we are getting some compensation in and another player into the squad In a position we need then i think we have definitely got the better end of the deal.

Hey.

So Joe has followed York and a bunch of York folk (owner and such) on social media to get our ears perked on signing him, cause that's how it is these days, right? ;)

Rumour is cash plus left back Cam John (decent, just third choice now), but decent.

Other thing, he has not played in our two preseasons. And the Garforth game was our kids, not the first team.

York have signed 2 left backs this close season as apparently it was a problem position for them good they can palm off their now 3rd choice one for one of our best players if that ends up being the deal…

..yet some think we are setting up for a promotion push !

I think that's the concern from many of our fans, we've just loaned out a similar player to Scunny.

That would be the left back of the team that just missed out on promotion. :naughty:

I'd say the board is pretty much devoid of any real sense of optimism for the season ahead let alone expectations of a promotion challenge.
Think the optimism and expectations has been drawn out of us all as the close season and lack of progress with the takeover has gone on.
The appointment of (yet another) manager, albeit with decent credentials, and new players who look decent at face value, are tempered with the losses of Mani and to a lesser degree Mancini and Grey.
Very much a fingers crossed and suck it and see period for me.

York fan here. Cam John is ok. He was probably the weakest link in our side last season though. LB was the position we never properly addressed. We've now addressed it. He's solid enough though and can go on a gallop forward. He's probably best on the left of a back 3 but we played a back4. He's a bit short on technique but has a decent attitude.

So he tries hard but isn’t that good ? Sounds like he will fit in well

Is it true it’s just a season long loan ? That’s what the Mail says, let’s hope we have another left backs this close in line or otherwise that famous flexibility will be needed for when we play York

Yes season long loan. I'd have happily kept John as back-up, but we've actually signed two LB's. As I said he's ok. Problem was we try to play the ball out from the back often employing short passing triangles in our own area, which make me nervous. He's not really cut out for that.

Wonder what sort of fee we got for Grey ? Or is it just they paying their 3rd choice left backs wages for us while he plays for us ?

Sort of loan you’d expect a small club just promoted to this league to be happy with IMO

We’ll finish middle of the bottom half. We can’t even hope for better than that. No doubt we’ll get a four game flourish which will have people talking about play offs but the reality is that over 46 games you end up exactly where you deserve to be.

They are completely separate deals according to Rob Law. Official site says the compensation fee for Grey will be decided at a tribunal, nothing about reducing the fee because we’ve took John on loan.

So other than Featherstone (now Greys gone) our longest serving senior player is young Stephenson perhaps?, can't think of anyone else who's been here longer than 2 years sctatchinghead

Just checked and our longest serving squad players (other than Featherstone) are Louis Stephenson and Campbell Darcy both 19, show's how much turnover there has been at the club.

Correct. Pools turned down the transfer fee that York offered so it goes to a tribunal. End of.

On balance it's probably a good thing for Joe's career that he moves on at this point, though you do wonder how many games he will start for York. He's sure to be involved twice against Pools, at any rate

Call me a cynic and not being awkward, but once they’ve gone, they’ve gone and don’t look back…..I have no ill will, but they can do my club no more good, so whatever they do doesn’t bother me…..I’m concerned only about Pools.

can see him being far better for them than he would if he had stopped at pools. always looks a better player in a side playing well where on paper its going to be york doing that not us.

Knowing our management the tribunal will come up a lower figure than York offered.

If they can play him in his best position (striker playing off a CF imo) then he'll do well. Suspect he'll be a peripheral player for them though and be binned after they get promotion.

Don't know too much about him but apparently he has played CB and LB so I'd imagine his strengths will be as a defender, maybe York wants a LWB and Kitch fits that role as his defending was never brilliant but his attacking game was good?
At the end of the day LB / LWB has been a problem area for us for a while as Fergy was in decline, this fella has got experience at higher levels and is only 25 so good luck to the lad.

he hardly needs to be man of the match on a weekly basis to be better than his predecesor.

I see York were at home to Sheffield Utd in a friendly last night, lost 6-2. It's not the size of the squad.....

would have been worse if they had put a strong team out and were beaten by FC Sheffield by the same score.

According to York fans,he is a LWB & pretty useless in a flat back 4.

Consensus seems to be Grayson is going to favor a 3 at the back approach so he'll be in the same boat?---Sure its all part of a Monks Masterplan on the recruitment front we just aren't smart enough to understand yet !

Mentions being versatile and adaptable and that's why he's trying 3 at the back and 4 during these friendlies so we'll just have to see when the real games start.

Last chance saloon.
The defence is solid n Larry creates a awesome team spirit.

End of the day it's only div 5.

If Tinpot no fans Halifax comfortably got in the play offs last season etc etc.

Remember where we are now n where we used to be.

We shud never be about non league acceptance.

Mentions being versatile and adaptable and that's why he's trying 3 at the back and 4 during these friendlies so we'll just have to see when the real games start.
Having a plan B will be different from Sarll and LL.

Going to struggle to fill the subs bench so not surprised. Can't imagine many teams are having to use as many trialists as Pools at this point.... our only contracted goalkeeper is the coach ffs

My bet is we loan someone in for keeper who hasn't been on anyones radar with a week to go...The club knocks one out over how good he is.....and we end up with Smith starting at Yeovil !

Consensus seems to be Grayson is going to favor a 3 at the back approach so he'll be in the same boat?---Sure its all part of a Monks Masterplan on the recruitment front we just aren't smart enough to understand yet !

Unless your an absolute Bellend.
