The Squad

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

The Squad

Postby kevin pooles gloves » Thu Jun 19, 2025 6:58 pm

For me only:

Sheron
Miley
Parkes
Possibly Steveo

Good enough to play in a promotion team.

Some urgent action needed.

You are optimistic

Sheron- decent workhorse glad we signed him again but this is his level
Miley - A lot to prove before we say he is promo level
Parkes - yes with a mobile quick player next to him, and another year slower next season
Stephenson - National league north standard at current level

As for the rest , none of Feather Fergie, Folarin Smith or Charman will be playing as high as national league in 26/27 season …. We absolutely have a bat league North standard of squad so far

We've barely got a team
What about Campbell - I know he wasn't great last season but he won promotion to League 1 with Creepy the year before.

He'd be even better if he could shoot on sight- too many mazy runs that go nowhere - just have a crack FFS!

Strangely, I thought he took too many shots from ridiculous positions when if he'd looked up he would have seen better options.
I don't think he's a winger and would be better played more centrally. I'm not convinced he's NL level after his 1st season with us.
Opinions eh?

Can't fault his effort and going past defenders but his end product of not to good at crossing n shooting needs upgrading.

Didn’t shine with us, but had no such problems at his previous clubs and was well thought of….maybe it’s the tactics and a rank inability to discover a players bestrole/ position

I think it is that. I'm sure the majority of players Pools sign, would've performed much better had they signed for other clubs. Hardly surprising though when no one at the club is in post for more than 6 months, other than those dragging the club down. Only the desperate sign for Pools, and that in itself presents a problem from the outset.

he needs serious coaching to get him to use his head more. nobody can knock the lad for his effort and does his best which with better coaching he could be better.

Said before, Charman got 4 goals and 6 assists last season. He's never been a prolific scorer and that's not likely to change, but he makes chances for others - put a couple on a plate last season for Mani that were missed.

Pools have got to find a proper goalscorer from somewhere.

big difference is they signed him as a non league player where we expected him to do the job in div.2. would not be surprised if oldham loaned him out next season and is gone in january. one of the biggest jokes at pools was wreh who looked less interested than anybody inside the ground did.

There's a definite Chindit vibe I'm tuning-in to here.

The Nepalese were well represented in that particular group of men, and if Grayson is anything like Wingate then we'll be fit as fuck if nowt else.

And Raj will be shit scared of him if he's even a tenth as mental as the General was.

Not quite sure he'll get away with attending training sessions bollock naked mind, but ya never know...

Charman needs a lot of coaching and at his age while not impossible it’s unlikely we get a dramatic improvement, as someone said above, he never gets his head up and the number of time possession is lost by him just putting his head down and running into blind alleys is very annoying
He absolutely tries his best not doubt but he’s not good enough for this level imo sadly

So a player from a division below, maybe he’s good, that’s what we said about Niang, Hastie, Patterson and Murray…don’t judge until you see them, forget the level they have come from

You can't judge what they'll do for us until they actually appear for us though can you?
The big concern at the moment is lack of numbers, maybe with month end coming up and contracts expiring well see some arrivals in the next week or so, maybe Lennie will be lacing his boots for the 1st friendly?
