FFS today we were up against a top notch genuine promotion contender - who needed to secure the three points - with several key players missing, uncertainty about the immediate future of the club and everyone associated with it. Skippy may or may not be the first choice manager of the fans or the new owners but maybe take a reality check and consider where we could easily be today under the inept Saarl or terminally negative Lawrence.

One defeat in eight games including three successive home wins is some achievement with a patchwork, inconsistent, injury prone squad that had failed miserably during the season under the aforementioned timewasters.

I'm not advocating the award of a long term contract for Skippy under the new owners but let's show a bit of respect for a guy who has steered the club away from an almost certain late season relegation battle FFS.

Agreed, it didn't sound good today but given that Pools season was effectively over several weeks back its far from uncommon for players to be mentally and physically 'on the beach' before now. It would appear that the Borer and SMB squads are also busy applying the fake tan - much to the disgust of their fans as both clubs have everything to play for.

Its the fact that it seems to happen almost every season at Pools, that pisses people off. A professionally run club with players who care, would and could still go away and get a result, even if there was nothing to play for, lets see if we can make amends next week by beating Forest Green 5-1 next week, or will a FGR reserve side or players saving themselves for the play offs, still manage to get a result at the Vic.

It's a fact that for the majority of this season the club has been mismanaged at ownership, commercial and playing squad level. It's also a fact that it's not just Pools, for the majority of clubs at any level the season is quickly fizzling out, I'm surprised that player apathy didn't set in several weeks back to be honest. Like it or not many players will have one eye on forthcoming family holidays - would you go in for a tough 50/50 challenge in a totally meaningless fixture if you were due to jet off to paradise on 6th May? As you say, FGR's priority will undoubtedly be avoiding injury to key players prior to the playoffs but don't expect blood and guts kamikaze stuff from the Pools players either.

No wonder Pools are shite, if as a supporter you find this acceptable. Personally I would go in for a 50/50 tackle, people are paying good money to watch me, and to hopefully get a win for their team, and if I was a player, my team, and hopefully entertain in the process of getting that win. And since when was a game of football meaningless?. It is not acceptable to have this, one eye on the family holiday etc. Only in football and particularly at Pools, would you expect to get paid for basically just turning up and not lifting a finger. As I said, lets see what happens v FGR, they have nothing to play for, Pools have their pride to play for, therefore Pools should win, but I very much doubt they will, if todays showing is anything to go by and if supporters like yourself make excuses for them. Maybe the club should let fans in for free next week, if the players have their mind on other things as opposed to giving their all for Hartlepool United.

I didn't say that it was acceptable, I was pointing out that it happens, there's no point in burying your head in the sand and pretending that it doesn't. I will be there for the FGR finale regardless hoping but certainly not expecting Pools to turn them over. Hopefully P&B's prediction re the takeover will be confirmed before the FGR match otherwise it's inevitable that the players WILL have something on their minds.

feel yesterday was skippy,s gateshead moment like phillips was and his time with us was guaged upon. didn,t bother going as i expected a defeat but not by that margin. we need stability with new owners and a decent manager before moving on to getting a team to watch we deserve.

you could go on about this issue from both sides. taking away from the fact that football does put a town on the map with success there will be more not interested in the game than those who are. then councils also spend money on projects that the majority are not in favour of as well for bigger minorities than the local football team is. more or less i do not want my council to subsidise my interests and hobbies as i do not want em to do the same for others.

Don't think Groves and Spennymoor are as affluent as they were a couple of seasons s back. Punching well above their weight though.
