It is when you spout shite like Gateshead owners are a classic example of how to run a f*cking club.

For the first 30mins Gateshead ran rings around York, Then like Good teams do they found a way back and won comfortably.

Them or Southend for the last play off spot, and guess what? they play each other on the final day. Gateshead at home, but looks like they've blown it, Southend have come up on the rails, and will be heavily backed next Saturday. Hope Gateshead win, as Southend will be nailed on Champions next season IMO if they fail this time around.

Top 7 presently all relatively recent members of the efl, shows how hard this league is to get out of (in an upward direction) especially with only 1 automatic promotion spot. Doesn't excuse our not really competing at any stage of the season.

It is and does, and getting harder every season IMO, although the standard of the league in general is falling IMO, with those in the bottom half particularly poor. Hence I predict Pools becoming a sort of Crystal Palace of the NL, firmly stuck around mid table season upon season, with the odd 8th and 20th place finish occasionally, but generally between 10th and 16th.

Hopefully there will be two automatic promotion slots available next season. Either way, I would rather see a proper, traditional football club with a good fanbase like Saafend go up as opposed to a traditional non- league, poorly supported outfit such as Gateshead, playing in a deteteriorating athletics stadium.

If i were cynical, With Gateshead selling their better players in January I would may be think they did not want to go up.
Ya know, May be even messing it up last season.

May be just may be, They could not sustain a EFL club, Ya know with them being so well run

The Heed will always be in the shadow of the Mags, they have a hard core of 1k fans at best - and that at time when they have been riding high, chasing promotion in the NL. Whoever is backing them financially would need to up the ante considerably should they somehow manage to scramble their way into and through the playoffs. Can't see it happening tbh.

I think in the eyes of some club owners nowadays, the very essence of being a well run club, isn't necessarily one that keeps on getting promoted, but one that can function well at a level that suits. I think Gateshead would take promotion, but I've always maintained that they'd lose no sleep if it didn't happen. NL suits them, with the odd trip to Wembley in the play offs or FA Trophy, and possibly an FA Cup run. You are seeing this in the Premier League, where teams are deliberately making no real effort to stay in the Premier League, just enjoy the season long ride and take the money for that season and the resulting parachute payments, then rinse and repeat. Of course I am not sure how you can make players deliberately spunk promotion, but selling your best players in January probably helps a lot.
