Has to be

other clubs in our league have signed plyers too good for this level so why not pools.

You have got to give credit to Pools makeshift defence apart from Smith who nearly cost Pools the game.

A very good win, and display, considering Parkes was missing and not even Waterfall to fall back on, then Sass Davies goes off, and I'm thinking, no way can we not concede at least 2 goals with that makeshift defence, we'll need to score 3, which of course we did in the end, even though it wasn't needed. Gateshead yet again fail to win at the Vic, don't know why the struggle at the Vic, when they are usually so good away from home, they certainly overplay IMO, though credit to Pools they never let them settle and did a job on them. Cleary was outstanding, league 1 quality or even Championship bench IMO, so only 2 games left of him.

It really was, otherwise it would have been a 2-2 draw...

One thing AL can definitely be credited for is his attacking approach. It's 9 games since we last failed to score (the 1-0 loss to York).
Pools have got into the habit of scoring early. They don't always hang onto a lead, which is a pisser, but still a vast improvement on the Sarll goal drought.

Cleary is a player who shows what a gamble it is signing any player. could not break into the walsall side but became one of our most important players for us. the opposite of chapman. a regular in a promotion winning side but done very little for us. the only club who could be sure of cleary is us.

I actually thought with that makeshift defence in the second half, it was akin to going down to 10 men, so that made the result even better. I do think for some reason though, whatever the semantics, Pools will always get a positive result v Gateshead at the Vic, and sometimes unexplained things like that can play a part.

Right time right place springs to mind. Pools have signed plenty of players on loan in the past, who were poor at the time, but then went on to be accomplished players, sometimes in leagues above. Walsall will probably sign him now

Think a big part of if a loan player is successful is if they really want to be here at all. Most of the better ones we've had have not looked as if they feel out of place at such a lowly club.

the players can refuse the move. just a pity most never took that option.
