You are not the only one. The last time we had a debate about the clubs badge a handful of people on here got a bit stroppy and started arguing that it does not matter in the grand scheme of things so why bother moaning about it. It does look pish tho banghead

Bring the hart back into the logo, I say. The ship's wheel doesn't fully represent Hartlepool and there's no use of it in any other town logos. Hell, I'd like the hanging monkey as part of it. Doubt it'd be allowed by busybodies though.

"The town's club" is the most ridiculous statement of fact, too. It should almost certainly be Never Say Die.

i would of thought with hartlepools maritime heritage/history the ships wheel would be more suitable than a hart.

I see your point but the HUFC tradition is the hart - we were one of the big 5 ports of Britain but the classic Pools logos all have the hart on

im not disagreeing with either i'd probably buy one if it had a pink loveheart on it. does anyone know why a Hart though, is it just because its Hart lepool or was there a Hart that used to roam the wilds of Hartlepool before the town came to prominence, maybe its a Q for the historians of the town.

Tim Lambert says:

Hartlepool began as a Saxon settlement. The name Hartlepool is probably derived from the Saxon words Heorot eg pol. Heorot is Saxon for hart. The word eg (pronounced 'ee') meant island or peninsula and pol meant pool or bay. So it was the bay by the peninsula with harts.

'We know how to play, be it home or away, here in Heorot Eg Pol...........'

I'm with Timmy on this one. I like the ships wheel and for me represents the towns maritime heritage. The marina re emphasises this in modern times, haven't seen many harts running about recently. But agreeing with Timmy - what twice in one post, that's ludicrous - I'd go for anything that the club used. As long as it's not a bloody witches hat.

The hart refers to the deer found roaming in the area to the north west of what is now Hartlepool and is now known surprisingly as Hart.

I believe that Hart was actually founded before Hartlepool and that hart on the water (a rough perception of hartlepool) is because like it's hart but a but closer to the water (sea) like.

Hart itself of course has a very very old church, is in an elevated position and as we all know is the site of the assumed battle between Hrothgar and Grendel fought at Hart in the 6th century. and of course the significance of the petrified forest at Seaton which can be assumed to be, in some quarters, an anglo saxon fortress just south of the 'hartness'

Indeed food for thought.

I reccomend the new fillum out soon Beowulf and also to have a bit of a scoot about on this link and others found in google under the exact search "beowulf" +"hartlepool"

http://books.google.com/books?id=TnBZi6 ... VHnmuychDA

you'll be surprised and then can imagine a little and put some more claim to the fame of our land, our hartlepool. (cue standing up, saluting and waving a flag etc etc etc )

What's a petrified forest seen to make it so scared?

It saw the little scar then the long scar that the last Seaton intruders got.
