Abingdon, you are wrong in your assumptions that the application of DNA is the same as the technology of DNA. And you are wrong in your assertion that the only cases of forensic error are in cot death cases. There have been problems with DNA and fingerprinting too.

I suggest you read a recent study, Carole McCartney, Forensic Identification and Criminal Justice (Willan, 2007).

i have read it and it brings some interesting points i was mearly stating that why not have us all on the database would it really affect the majority non criminal population if we did

I thought that the DNA was the National Association of Dyslexics.
Anyway, the only thing I've got to hide is a packet of biscuits, which I've done brilliantly. I know this because the bairn still hasn't found them after three days of looking. clappp

It probably would help protect the law abiding citizens.....in a criminal sense. But you are still missing the point.

Its what the powers would do with such a database long term that concerns me, and others. It would ultimately be used against us in some way.........because thats what a nanny state like government does.

I agree with Dibble but have you noticed how none of us ever changes her/his mind as a result of bunker debate? We must be going wrong somewhere

Why not DNA everyone? It's not fair, it's not proportionate, and it's not cost effective.

If anyone is serious at looking at the arguments, see the recent Nuffield Council on Bioethics Report on the forensic use of bioinformation at http://www.nuffieldbioethics.org/go/ourwork/bioinformationuse/publication_441.html%20. They agree with me (largely), not Abingdon! No doubt, he could find some crazed chief constable to agree with him!
