GB News in town got the day and doing the rounds asking about the state of the town…our lass called me to see our amp being interviewed, I was shocked to realise I lived in a boom town banghead …..unfortunately others about town being interviewed appear not to see it that way.

What do you expect him to say Snowy the towns a shi****, he is a minnow in a big pond toeing the party line to keep himself in a job. Let’s see if he can improve on what Jill Mortimer or any other of the MPs ever did for Hartlepool including the U.K. Ambassador in the States, I very much doubt it.

You’re breaking my heart…..not!
Sooo you think the town’s a shi***………the irony is embarrassing …although one time you loved to call Hartlepool a little village in the North East…quite frequently.
Will you get a gold star from the Party on your membership card ( Bangkok North East Branch) for ‘intervening’ refred

It was a boom town at the time of the Bombardment. Per head of population it was at the top of the number of millionaires in the country and similarly when our cousins the Germans started shelling us the town was up there will the amount raised in War Bonds.

Hartlepool had all the rich ship owners residing in the town.
Which in turn employed thousands of men.

Decline of the shipbuilding industry in the north east signalled the deal knell, especially for Hartlepool.

Yes it is sh**hole a forgotten village in the N.E. Snowy, do you not walk round Middleton Grange Centre and see all the shuttered shops. There are numerous grot spots that were once night clubs, in some respects when the Odeon burnt down that removed one of them. The old Shades down Church Street the council paid an arm and a leg for years ago still boarded up.

When I lived up Bishop some one vandalised all the stair lights switches in the complex, my daughter had cartons of milk thrown all over the house and put throw the letter box. Numerous doorbell CCTVs showing lads going round trying house and car doors

The Marina which was supposed to be the jewel in the crown now full of bars instead of all the upmarket shops and restaurants it was supposed to be with yachts coming from all over the globe to visit.

Why are you comparing Hartlepool to Bangkok, you ever been there, I doubt it, another poster who makes comparisons and has no idea what a another country or their culture is like.I only transit through the airport which isn’t actually in Bangkok, I have no idea what Bangkok is like the same as you.

If you are going to make comparisons make sure we are all familiar with the locations, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Billingham etc.

In one of your posts on another topic you mentioned you were watching GB News, I have you sussed Snowy, your a closeted Reform Party supporter, you spoke to Nigel recently ?

If you’re so dismissive of the place why are on here, surely you’d want to be away and forget…you obviously don’t like Hartlepool or are you a sado masochist.
If thou think it’s a shithole why are you here?
I’m proud of my town and take exception to it being slagged.off….. so being such a sensitive soul, do your self a favour by fucking right off on the horse you rode in on.

Yes those were the days of Civic Pride when the council had an army of gardeners and a nursery.
The central governments funded the towns appropriately not as how we have had since.

Remember when we kept winning the Britain in bloom competition in the 60’s and 70’s…..I suspect the office staff to to actual gardeners was different then….like a lot of Council departments compared to today..more Do’ers then pen pushers.
You can always judge a town by the garden features on the approach roads…the practice of sponsoring roundabouts just looks cheap to me.

shipbuilding and heavy industry dying in hartlepool like the textile industry in west yorkshire and east lancashire doing the same with an equal affect on the towns. now hartlepool is no better but no worse than the rest of our old manufacturing towns. boom, feel thats a thing of the past in the uk and many will have to look up its meaning in the future.

A big boom should be heard in the shopping centre.

My father told me of this back in the 80’s….when planning application was sought back in 60’s it went before a regional planning review as moving an established town centre that distance from it’s original location was unlikely to work…but they won and we lost.
Lynn St could have been kept, upgraded and a new development built behind….but Councillors do like to leave a legacy/tombstone .
It was never liked….a massive mistake.

I always remember coming home from me nana's in Horden on many a 1970s Sunday afternoon, and the sign at Crimdon that announced Hartlepool - Winner of Britain in Bloom. It did state the date if I remember it right, but not sure what year it was.

Post 1974, you were also informed that you were entering Cleveland, and I think our twin town Hückelhoven also got a mention.

I wonder if that's regarded as a shit hole by our friends in the Deutschland?

Cleveland was when it all went tits up….everything was thrown into making the Boro a ‘City’ and with us out on the far borders we could and were….,left to rot.

Wow that was amazing footage of a once proud town with very proud people and a good council who done the town extremely proud. Its annoying and frustrating to compare then to now. The differences I notice are the proud people not vandals, a council who used its funds to enhance our town instead of pissing it away on non essential buildings and waste of money projects a council who had not yet been corrupted by gready individuals and dodgy deals. Also obviously employed a team of proper gardeners who had pride instead of the dickheads now flying about on large grass cutting machine and fat bellies. And the amazing gardens all over town were obviously done by extremely proud people who competed with one another. And now I see a run down depressed deprived warn out town stuggling to put flowers on a handful of chosen roundabouts. Gangs of thugs destroying / defacing or vandalising the bus stops the signage the barriers fences and walls all over the town. Shops deprived of paint or empty with horrendous shutters and some left to rot. Large once impressive buildings left to fall apart after councils allowed night club and pubs owners to make a fortune then simply walk away and later buy these eye sores for big bucks simply to pull down. Or worse just left them to fall apart in prime town centre locations from owners who just cant lose. The one thing that stands out the most to me looking back and today is the good people then and now are the same proud people who are extremely happy to be from the town yes town not village.

If Hartlepool Council was a cruise liner there’d be 5% of the crew in the engine room sweating and 95% on the bridge gazing into the far horizon without a clue where they were going.

makes it worse as the same could be said of anytown in the uk. corrupt councils and their mates aided by more vandels making places worse by the year. then in some places they make a big splash about planting trees but have no idea what to plant and where they are planted but only taking the place of the numbers felled. kids might say they identify as different things but never a tree as they,d be cut down in their prime or lose a few limbs before reaching adult hood.
