Remember once when coming back from Reconnaissance (away game) Stopping off somewhere like Knaresborough for refreshments and a slash, And of course helping the locals with any problems they had with garden fencing and the like.
Only to be told that our help (no matter how kind) would not be needed, And then being escorted from said Village by the local Constabulary. They never asked us back for some strange reason, Ah well, We tried.

I remember when we played Sheff Utd away F.A.C we organised a 52 seater then went all the way to the stadium before the local filth escorted us back to Hartlepool ( apparently our singing in a pub in Harrogate upset the locals). Mind you we have a bus full of mad lads been drinking since 6am at the golden flats pub including Phil Bailey who at one point drove the bus across the garage forecourt after we all give it a push start.

Early 70’s the coach we were on got battered after the match….the local constabulary like something from Gilbert & Sullivan opera and informed us we were all under arrest regarding a condom machine……we sat in the coach for two hours and then they waved us goodbye…still never worked out what the condom machine mystery was all about.

I was locked up at Sheff U with Philly Bailey in October 1981. Now that was a day and a half.

There’s four branches…I was in the reserves, didn’t wanna do the day job so engineering goes over the side…nice effort though.

It's not a problem Imp it's your personal business and upto you only to say. The reason I asked was I have total respect for all service people past n present and because you mentioned it to Snowy I was interested if you also served. I know a few on here have served Mr.I / Snowy / Ozzy plus others and I respect all for serving our country. I lost family members in the Falklands and Gulf so I do have an interest service personal. I was going to sign up at 18 yrs old but my dad talked me out of it. Respect.

Very modest something I find with all military people. I have never met one who brags instead they keep stumb mainly and get on with their lives. That said most stand their ground in debates and conversations about ordinary life.

We had a arogant shitheaded cop on the bus from Sheffield and he threatened to arrest me for giving him both barrels. I was the one who stood up and faced him and give him hell when he insisted we all sat down he was a pure wanker. In all the years following Pools that was the closest I ever came to punching a copper. He said it was for Harrogate but mainly because we got off on the slip road traffic jam and had a piss....funny thing was a copper got on the bus at that slip road and said if you need a piss go over to the trees and that's fine. But this twat said that was a lie. Front line news hooligans in Sheffield escorted all the way back to Hartlepool.

I have drove past the A1 RAF base with the fighter jet outside many times. Is that the name of that base because I cannot remember. It looks fantastic though very impressive to see. Ingleby Barwick has a Spitfire on a roundabout and that also looks good.

100% we had a helmet bike rider at the front of the bus who kept his helmet on and stayed at the front near the driver until we got off the A1. I thought it was strange that he must have left the bike at the ground and asked him later why he kept the helmet on and he ǰust smerked at me. I was only talking to one of the lads last week about that day and he remembered him and said he just stood like a statue near the steps of the bus. When we arrived at the ground the driver was told to keep us on board. After around 10 minutes an inspector got on and said to the driver in front of me that he was not allowing this lot in the ground. I asked the inspector why and he said because he had a call from Harrogate police saying we had run riot in a pub and frightened the locals he added and my officers seen you all getting of he bus at the slip road and urinating on the grass in front of woman and children. I said we got permission from a bobby he said wait and got off. We assumed he was going to check with the officer but instead this white helmet copper got on and told the driver to drive off back north. My thoughts on the helmeted copper is he was put on the bus complete with helmet incase it kicked off just a guess.
