The Council have given permission for its conversion with 12 Bedrooms and communal cooking facilities.
Councillor Carole Thompson was ‘absolutely in favour’..which she hoped would attract young professionals.
She said’ I think it’s a wonderful development because of its target audience, it’s about the group they are putting in there’.
The applicant was looking for the like of teachers, engineers and social workers’..adding it would …’ bring the propert back to life’.

Local residents are not happy.
If the applicant can’t get teachers , engineers and social workers, for their communal living, then what…?

Always enjoyed walking along that road.

The vicarage for Stranton Church used to be there along with Grantully Maternity home.

Now another area of Hartlepool where immigrants will be seen hanging around!

Not really Accy,..it’s just that teachers, engineers and social workers don’t generally live in houses of multiple occupation with communal facilities…now call me a cynic…

Naivety in capital letters Snowy.
Days gone by Houses of Multiple Occupation were called bed sits.

If ya watch HUTH they all have their own en_suites nowadays.
But sharing the big Kitchen could cause a bit of chew especially if it's for them lot.

Sharing the kitchen is the problem, ok if it’s cleaned daily, people wash up after themselves etc but we know what some human beings live like. Storing food in the communal fridge is another not unless you have one in the the room.

I suspect concern for the accommodation layout is the least of the problems…..and the concerns of the local residents brushed aside by Councillors who I assumed were elected to represent them.
I wonder how many Councillors reside in the Ward they represent.

a few years ago this seemed the norm with little objections. funny now that even in my area as well so many are turned down because of the objectors. cannot be a co incidence with the influx of immigrants and this government wanting it made easier to get things through the planning stage. be vigelant lads in your areas and show em how unwelcome these things are.

Do all these sort of places go on the register as new housing on the government’s record of achievement …… will Labour Councillors across the country be approving wigwams as part of their housing pledge…..nowt would surprise me

Due to the lack of affordable housing some will say it’s necessary albeit I can’t see many professionals staying in one, maybe in the cities though.
Whilst not in support if places like that if they are left derelict they usually end up going on fire for one reason or another.
Why not convert it into 1 bedroom flats, obviously less income and more expensive to do so ?

Like I said, very surprised no one knocked it down and built two or three houses on the land as it’s a pleasant road.

its all about who gets housed in those places for me and who gets the first dibs on them. again its gone from a rubber stamping exercise to planning permission suddenly getting turned down.

Remember the vicarage was also just off Elwick Road back in the late 70s.

Because you get more money for Squeezing 12 sardines into the tin instead of the creditable 4

Why don't a few of us Bunker members move in?
I am sure we would all get on!
We could be known as the Bunker Dozen.
