Rather than buying bags of fruit i tend to buy one of a few things like apples oranges etc. However today i bought a pear (just one and it was a peach) but i was staggered to see it cost 78p. Now i like a nice pair especially firm ones but this is more than i have ever paid to get hold of them.
Its Aldi for me in future.

Not surprisingly Tesco profits have soared, we are talking billions from every day sales produce.
The UK's biggest supermarket chain said pre-tax profits hit £2.3bn, up from £882m, while sales rose by 4.4% to £68.2bn in the year to 24 February.

Spookily enough, a news report from 1982 popped up on the BBC Archive on YouTube yesterday about the introduction of the likes of Fine Fare Yellow Pack and Tesco Basics - which is a great watch if you'd like to understand the mindset of big supermarkets, and how it continues to this day.

It would also not be out of place on the "Blast from the past" thread.

Beef tomatoes still 75p.
Why the hell do they call them "beef"?
They just taste like water with a hint of tomato.

yes, other supermarkets and shops are always available. do not like buying bags of anything as they go off before you finish them and apples and carrots are only fit for the local horses. these places are not for single people or couples but for families as big as possible to reap any benefits from them.

I paid the same in the Co-op yesterday as we'd forgot to get some from our main shop at ASDA and ran out - and this was a "special offer" via my membership card..! My fault I suppose as I can't get away with any of the cheapies and must have me Kenco Smooth.

Speaking of the Co-op, they've currently got a big sign on the door informing those of us with membership cards that we own the store - so maybe next time, since I own the shop, I should just grab a jar and walk out without paying...???

And shag the manageress...
