In Honour of auld Len

Lennie Lawrence, past his prime,
Once a force, now lost in time,
Staggering his way through Hartlepool’s gates,
With old stories and slipping fates.

He lingers on in a fading glow,
A name once bright, now moving slow,
Chasing wages with a knowing smile,
Pretending he’s still got that spark, for a while.

The game has changed, but Lennie stays,
Clinging to glory’s distant days,
A relic adrift, with no more cheer,
