Federal workers in the States received an email on Saturday afternoon asking them to list their accomplishments from the past week or resign - the latest development in the Trump administration's efforts targeting the federal workforce.
How would the U.K. civil servants respond ?

Chalk and cheeses.
You are comparing different systems and attitudes, like comparing the NHS with a private system…people over there will have a different mindset and accept fire and hire.
The wife’s friend was a civil servant till last year after 30 years she got made redundant….she got another job.
If Civil Servants were sacked …like it’s happened to many on here you accept it, because once the money stops you suddenly realise crying over what happened moves you on….though I suspect some Civil Servants may never recover from joining the real world…,even you should know that Jamie from contracting.
Or is this some casual rant against Trump.

But the email didn't mention resigning if you read the article.
This has been going on in private enterprise for years, from my experience it was initiated with "Time and Motion studies" with the least effective positions being made redundant and their duties merged into other positions. More recently programmes like Lean and Kaizen are used successfully which among other things drives out duplication and inefficiencies. General Electrics used to sack the worst performing 10% of employees every year, I worked for companies that paid huge bonuses which were dependent on performance with the worst 5% getting nothing and the bonus graduated according to your performance score. That's how successful businesses are profitable, and the most profitable tolerate the least inefficiencies generally.
So why shouldn't tax payers expect high efficiency from government and least financial waste, whether here or in the States or anywhere?

I'd hazard a guess that they're both bloated with duplication, ineffectiveness, and waste. Same as most government agencies.
I can remember careers advisors telling people if you can get a Civil Service job you'll have a cushy job for life, has anything changed? Loads of them "working" from home ffs!

food industry, government civil service and a council pen pusher are the jobs for life but only the first one is a neccesity as everything living has to eat.

Wasn’t it just the one dept originally, the one giving foreign aid out on various schemes .
One exTory MP ‘s wife was receiving $1m for her Afghan charity…from them.

I gave up reading a U.K. newspapers years ago as they weren’t available where I was working.I don’t read newspapers nowadays,if had a choice it wouldn’t be any of the Murdoch owned ones, The Telegraph, The Mail or The Express, tbh I can’t think of one I would pick up and read maybe the Independent as my mate reads it and is a lefty like me, maybe the title says it Independent, is it I wouldn’t know though.

How do associate the word ‘independent’ with the word ‘lefty’…..if you follow one field of politics from left, right or centre you are inclined towards their way of thinking…a true independent would be free of any allegiances to any party..
