Think Trump is playing the situation quite sensibly to be fair. Talking to the Zelenski and Putin separately to get a feel for what they want (and obviously more important to him what he can get) before getting them all in the same room. Obviously the negotiated settlement when it does come will be hugely complex to satisfy the ego's of the players and of course their own countrymen and women.

Zelenskyy is not involved in any peace talks, looking at Trumps fleeting statements it appears he is on Putins side slagging Ukraine off and intimating there should be an election in Ukraine. All he is doing is trying to destabilise Ukraine hoping maybe there could be a new leader removing Zelenskyy who Trump sees as an obstacle in any peace talks, maybe they should try removing Putin as well, elections can be manipulated allegedly.

Lavrov said that Moscow will not accept peacekeeping forces from Nato countries in Ukraine under any peace deal.
"Any appearance by armed forces under some other flag does not change anything. It is of course completely unacceptable," he said Meaning there will be no boots on the ground.
He reiterated Russia's previous position that any expansion of the Nato defence alliance - and Ukraine joining it - would be a "direct threat" to Russia, again Russia will not accept a NATO peace keeping force in Ukraine.
Full report and also Trumps speech, does he ever think before he waffles on ?

I did tell you Putin and Russia would win this.

Why would Russia want the UK at any peace deal negotiations, we scuppered a peace deal 2 years ago.

Russia won't accept a peacekeeping force in the Ukraine, it wouldn't be a peacekeeping force anyway, just a massive NATO training exercise, the very reason Russia invaded Ukraine in the first place, because that is exactly what would've happened had Ukraine joined NATO, thousands of Western troops on the Russian border.

To put 10,000 UK troops on the Russian border would be seen as an act of war, and our lads and lasses would be wiped out in no time.

Just think, if we put 10,000 troops in the English Channel or along the South Coast, there's your small boats problem solved in a heartbeat.

This is embarrassing, but then again, it more or less describes what the UK has become over the last 40 years or so, an old man, who still thinks he has got what it takes, but really is just a sad sick old man.

Anyway, all this talk of an EU army, I thought we were out of the EU? and I didn't think Ukraine were in the EU or NATO, does make you wonder what the hell we are doing helping them, what is the point of being a member of anything, if a non member can still get the same benefits as a member, the world has gone mad.

It looks like Trump is withdrawing his support for Ukraine and blaming them for starting the war.

Trump saying things which don't bear any resemblance to what his diplomats in Saudi are saying. He was playing a sensible strategy, now who knows where he'll take this.

It's a forum, the initial post has elicited response and discussion, which is the point of a forum. If you don't like anything I post that's fine don't read it, but unless you're the forum police just f*ck right off!!

Well said sir, why should you be shouted down and abused simply because others don’t concur with your views. The would-be warmongers posting in blind support of Starrmer’s inane ego-building ‘send in the troops’ policy should bear in mind that should the regular UK army start taking heavy casualties against Russian, North Korean (and God knows who else has a grudge against the West) in defence of a worthless foreign state then the next step will be conscription. This won’t only involve sons and grandsons but may also include daughters and granddaughters. Equality works both ways Im afraid.

Those quoting history lessons from the 1930’s should remember that diplomacy and detente has kept the peace for 80 years, why should these philosophies be abandoned now simply to enable Comrade Zelensky to retain a war torn section of his wasteland? Putin may well be a twat but he’s not Adolf Hitler, if he was of the same ilk he would already have wiped out Ukraine using his tactical nukes or those provided from the North Korean arsenal.

They’d have to build a few more prisons if conscription ever happened, because I think a substantial number of people would tell the Government to do one, myself included. I’d sooner go to jail than risk being killed in a war that has nothing to do with this country
