I have just read Jeff Stelling's latest book Saturday Afternoon Fever. In it he tells his side I believe to be the truth about the Prospective take over by the Hollywood super stars. He states that he spoke to the same fixer that had set up many take overs including Liverpool. He spoke to Ryan Reynolds and suggested a price of 500k and to speak to Raj then it fell down suggesting he increased the price and the deal was off. He stated that when Wrexham did the deal that they were always number one this was announced 3 months later.So if this is true Raj again scuttled the deal when it could have been done but for his greed,

What is the truth, we'll probably never know.
The guy who started it all off ( Humphrey Kerr) says "we looked at 8-10 clubs from NL, NLN &NLS, Div 2", "we looked at Hartlepool vaguely" he also names Macclesfield as a club they looked at.
He said they (Himself & McElhenney) decided on Wrexham then approached Reynolds with a view to sponsorship, it was Reynolds who then came back and said he didnt want to sponsor he actually wanted to buy a club. Which would suggest the decision to buy came after the selection of the club?
It definitely appears that they were sniffing around at some point in their selection process though.
So who's story is the truth Jeff, Raj, Humphrey Kerr??

The first question I would require answering is.......was Stelling authorised to suggest offering £500k.
The club usually apply NDA's to any negotiations so Stelling suggesting what might sway the deal and then openly revealing that figure in his book doesn't follow the normal procedure.
The only aspect of this debacle that can't be challenged is that Wrexham ended up as the "winners".
How that was arrived at is shrouded and people will select the story that suits their preference.

I would rather believe Stelling than one of Raj's tales from the fireside.

In fact if they'd added the fact that Wrexham were 2nd choice, even without naming their 1st choice, it would only have added to the rags to riches story.
It's unlikely we'll ever know if an offer was made or even any sort of serious enquiry.

No it wouldn't have. A great way to endear yourself to the fans of the club that you own is to tell them they were second choice. Raj Singh lying (although he said he rejected offers because he didn't know who they were and then said they were actually the Wrexham owners but didn't want Pools) means he can control the narrative around him rejecting life changing money for HUFC and cling on to some control. Ker lying means he enamors himself to the fans of the club they own, of which he is a director, it keeps the fairytale story going of the americans falling in love with Wrexham as a club and town going and how they were the best club they looked at etc. Now what does Jeff Stelling get from lying? A few pages in an autobiography and a 5 min tale to tell at his tour/after dinner speaking? This story is a minor part in his life of which only really Pools fans are interested in. It's not going to attract people to buy his book or see him speak as people will be more interested in his football Saturday stories.

Based on this I know who I believe.

But nobody has used the word "offer" from either side of the debate. Jeff "suggesting" £500k is hardly evidence of being anywhere close to an offer.
We'll never know, but hopefully going forward if there's someone genuinely wanting to buy the club it's probably best if they make their move sooner rather than later.

Believe whatever you want. I've read and heard plenty of commentary on what may or may not have happened, and decided I don't k ow what actually know what happened and like the rest of us probably never will.
I have definitely never heard of any offer from Reynolds and his associates though.
