But would have loved to have been at.
2 for me...

Leeds United 1979 FA Cup. My first Pools game was 1980 so missed this one. Still hear today about the atmosphere and a lot more than 16,000 in attendance.

Northampton Town 1991 to get promotion. I was on holiday in Majorca. Phoned me Mam every 15 minutes to see how it was going...cost me a fortune!!!

Me and the girlfriend left the Leeds game 5 mins before the end to get the bus to the green sides(before the rush) when we got there Bob Newton and Martin Gorry were already propping up the bar.
I'll never forget Paul Baker allowing the ball to roll down his shin(on purpose) before looping his shot over Northampton,'s keeper.it was the worst of times,it was the best of times

That's exactly what happened to me Accy.
So we weren't part of the 243,000 who have claimed to have been there.

There are Foetus’s who attended that match and several ‘promises’ included too.

How about being at the match where Jack Hogg scored 9 goals!
For those of us well over 115 years old.

That game against Leeds, Pools was absolutely packed. Seriously you couldn’t breathe. There was probably somewhere between 17-20k in the ground and a baby Mutley on the roof.

Aye, they had little tassels things on the top of their socks, …and got changed at the Grand…Pools ‘facilities’ were not to their liking.

Don’t know if it was me, but in the 80’s and 70’s I used to get really pissed off at the part timers and opportunists turning out for the occasional big match even if it did swell the coffers.

Missed the Leeds fa cup tie, had a ticket but it was postponed twice and eventually played when I couldn't get there due to work commitments.

Couldn't breathe is absolutely right, I was off school the next day because of bruised ribs. Squashed up against the wall near the town end. I still struggle to believe how many was in the ground that night.

This York game in 2 weeks.

Was busting to attend.
The challenge was 2 months ago for the team /club to shape up n go through with the non stop shit of we going for a play off spot.

I won't be the only one swerving it due to the abysmal ambition levels the club has now sunk to.

Bring it on superfans ya won't like that :angry-tappingfoot:

Missed the playoff final in Cardiff. I was on holiday on the Isle of Wight. I could have got there for the game but I suspected we were not going to win it. So it proved.. i've therefore not got the disappointment at having seen us robbed. We'd probably have only been up for a season but would have enjoyed it.

it happens now and is made worse if tickets are in short supply that type always manage to obtain tickets where some regulars miss out. not bothered nowadays but was in the past where for over 100 years now both me and my old man have never seen a cup final ticket but knew an occasional halifax fan who by 1975 when he died he had seen every cup final live from 1946. her in the kitchen could also have seen every final when she worked for rotary international as they were as easy to get hold of as tickets at the vic are for tomorrows match.

Town End was like Leppings Lane that night.

2 days later, only 2200 on a rain sodden cold afternoon v Grimsby, 2 or 3 crush barriers in the Town End were seriously bent and buckled. Had they gave way, people could've been killed or injured that night, but that was par for the course at the time, as youngsters we loved been in a crush behind a goal, it didn't happen often at Pools, but experienced it at Roker Park, St James, and in the away end at Ayresome. The Villa game was about right 12500, but 16000 was pushing it that night, though there was a little room in those hardly ever used floodlight corner terracing at Pools. When people stood there, you knew the crowd was 6000+

I missed Northampton game too, was gutted, down to money, had young children, and had chosen to go to away games at Peterborough and Hereford instead. Was so anxious had to take myself out for the day, radio in hand, walked the Kennet and Avon canal between Newbury and Reading, was just approaching outskirts of Reading when I found out the final result. I have to admit, I welled up on hearing the good news. 1969 till 1991 seemed an eternity at the time, I had been going since 71/72 ish.

Would loved to have been at Villa and Blackburn in 1974, but I was only 9.

Think only games I'd really have liked to have been at that I wasn't was Ipswich in the cup in 1992 and Chester in 1985, as never got to Sealand Road, and that was my chance. We were going, a few of us stood at the old bus station waiting for a lift , but the lad who was driving never turned up, so ended up on the lash instead.
