Don Hutchinson made similar passes. The crowd would moan then realise someone should have been there!

there is a minimum level as well as a maximum one where players can perform to their best. know for a fact its easier to raise your game than dropping it to the standard of your team mates.

Haaland is a world class striker but despite his presence, Norway rarely qualify for anything. Great player surrounded by average team mates will achieve nowt.

I remember the kick off at away game at Boothferry Park where he swung a pass out to Craig Midgley who was right on the touchline. It was inch perfect over 50 years. Of course it went straight under his boot and out for a throw. That set the tone for a truly miserable game (think we were 4-0 down by half time in the pissing rain).

Anyway, one other player worth a mention was Richie Barker. His winning goal at Wycombe in front of us was an absolute highlight

Mick Tait & Kevin Poole both class acts. We also had the Sunderland F.A. Cup winners lot Bobby Kerr, Dick Malone etc. We also had Little the former Villa midfielder. We could probably pick a team from the best players who would probably walk the Championship these days.

The problem Leggie is that the players you mention were all past it when they came to Pools.

I wasn't saying these players would have won the Championship.... I am talking about the very best we have had here over the years not those who came to retire. Nevertheless I did enjoy watching these big names playing in our blue n white. Kevin Poole was not past his best if memory serves and was infact one of the best goalkeepers alongside Dimi.

We've had some class players on the way up as well as at the end of their careers.

It really bemuses me why a serial pissed driver who killed his teammate whist drunk driving is still hero worshipped by some. Even after the Dave Wiggett tragedy he didn't learn his lessons, in 2007 he was convicted of driving a truck pissed.

The question was about which players you felt privileged to have seen - I really enjoyed watching Bob Newton during his first spell with Pools. End of.

What happened outside The Travs was unacceptable and unforgiveable on every level: the fact that he did it again speaks volumes.

Hero worship? No. Simply no.

a lot depends on if you only see him as just a player on the pitch and ignore what he did off it. i,d guess there are more fallen idols about if we look at what players did away from match performances. known a good number over the years who were really popular at their job but eventually fell foul of the law in serious matters including child sex, rape and actually murder.

Goalkeeper - Dimi
Defender - McKinnon
Midfielder - Mark Tinkler or Brian Honour
Goalscorer - Gordon Watson

McKinnon and Dalton the best combination down the left we have ever had, in my opinion.

100% players and hard as Fcuk which resulted in plenty of goals for Pools.

Mark Tinkler who made the game look so easy.
A class act.

Best winger by a country mile Paul Smith.
The relentless quality service to our forwards will never be repeated due to this wing back cut inside shit.

Eras of hard graft n proper organisation.

UTP.

Our best winger by a mile (in my tie anyway) was Paul Dalton--went on to play Championship level and was a good plater at that level too.

best player I have seen at Pools excluding Loanees and 'stars' on their way down was James Brown--would have been a Prem league player if he stayed fit....even his great seasons for us came after 1 cruciate injury...rumor Celtic bid for him or where about to before he got injured again--his ceiling if stayed fit was even higher than the likes of Boyd/Tommy Miller etc IMO
