Went to Sainsbury's a little earlier and did some shopping. The bill came to just over £100. I paid on my phone and went on my way. When I got home I noticed I had a 'payment declined' notification from the bank. In error I had paid with the joint account which is only usually topped up from my personal account when stuff is due payment.

So, payment declined. In effect I had just shoplifted 100 odd quids worth of shopping. What should I do?

How? They don't bother people who do it blatantly and Police aren't interested if its sub-£200.

That’s the catch, they only bother normal people and let the scavengers walk.

Donate to a food bank. You haven't lost out and others will benefit. You know it makes sense.

Have I understood this right? They’ve got your card number and details? Or just a possible image on a cctv? If it’s the latter then see Johny Marrs reply I reckon.

I cant speak for others but I would have a problem with my conscience if I just kept the shopping and didnt pay. I have been brought up to believe that honesty is the best policy.

Personally I’d say double bollocks to them, but only because the wife pays for the grocery bills and she’d get done.

thing is you paid in good faith. only problem is if you paid with cash and the notes were forged and they were accepted even if you didn,t know they were they could come after you if its proved you handed them over. it must be costing companies thousands every year with false transactions, but who can afford it the most. sod em, but it it was a sole trader i,d go around to sort it out as they need the money.

If you use a card it is declined immediately if not valid, what’s the difference with using your phone, does it take longer to go through ?
