Why try and improve on perfection? This new version is utter tripe.

Much like Willie Wonka, when it’s done perfectly you can only do worse. Why do they try?

Sly Stallone’s version of Get Carter was sacrilege and one of many criminal reworkings.

The Americans also famously remade Fawlty Towers minus Basil…predictably also shite.

It’ll be the Zulu’s turn to win …but them having tanks and helicopters will raise doubts about their historical research

It reveals a lack of quality in script writers and laziness when they have to do remakes of films but also shows Hollywood wringing every penny out of successful films till they devalue the original.
Star Wars being a prime example…now just a knackered cash cow for the followers and gormless.
It’s basically greed and lack of imagination and talent to try and create new films….seems they’re risk averse..

I saw it with my sons when they were young…..it’s cowboys in space as my late mate Ozzy called it.
The first three films were ok …..but even my lads lost interest after that.

There was only one Robin Hood for me, Errol Flynn although Richard Greene wasn’t too bad.

Some of the Zulus will be gay chinese and a number will be women.
I can see Michael Caine in a pink frock now.

The problem is if the first film is excellent it is very hard to make a remake as good and whilst it may be enjoyable you always get it wasn’t as good as the original. It’s the same with tv characters when another person takes over the role they never seem to be as good as the original. Books are even worse when made into films characters are changed, things are added or left out.

if i have previously not read the book one of my favourite films was based on i find a copy of it to read. do not think all are worse than the books and some like the third man and other films based on grahame greene books have vastly improved for the screen. a lot can depend on the actors and the directors of these films where a book is just a book.
