Arrived at Bangkok airport, I went to the check in deck, I was confronted with a load of machines.Totally self check in including hold baggage, you scanned an e-ticket on your telephone then your passport and after a few questions about the contents of your hold baggage the machine printed a label for your baggage and a boarding pass. You attached the label and put your baggage on the conveyor, no human contact apart from an attendant helping people out, another few people out of work now. They dispense with workers but the air fares don’t come down in price though.

EasyJet and others do this at Manchester and I would have thought other airports. Certainly get it a lot coming home from Europe.
Conversely, now we have black passports, having them stamped seems like a step back technology wise.

I was at Bali and Singapore the other week and they both had E-gates which were brilliant. There were loads of them which meant you were through in no time. Scan your documents, look in the camera and then you’re away. None of this hour long queues I had in Paris because they had only two people at a desk checking your passport and boarding passes.
Technology can sometimes be good if used right.

Newcastle have this now with TUI and also Ryanair - yet you still have to go to a baggage drop counter, hand over the passports and give the attendant the bags to sling off down the hold.

Dubai recently have them likewise with no human intervention - full things done by you.

its all good until something buggers up and you cant find a soul to ask what to do next !
