Bound to stir up a hornets nest but here goes:

Trevor McDonald has been cleared of racism after he said of Bernard Manning on his 'News Knight' programme (for those who don't know its a satirical news programme)

"personally I never thought of Bernard Manning as a racist comic - just a fat, white bastard."

Racism and double standards or not? Consider first if say Jim Davidson has called Trevor McDonald a 'grey haired black bastard'

No idea Phil, never watched it but it doesn't surprise me, thats his public persona. I make no secret that I quite like the bloke but not because of his stage act. As you know I've had a lot of dealings with him through the veterans association, we sit on the same committee and in person he is very different. Incidentally I don't always agree with him.

That was my take on it too. A very tongue in cheek joke that Bernard Manning might have appreciated.

I'm not asking if it was comidiac or not, there is out and out racist humour too. My question was "was it right to say that this was not a racsist statement.

I WATCHED MR DAVIDSON LAST NIGHT AND THOUGHT HE WAS MAKING HIS OPINION HEARD

I KNOW THE COUNTRY IS GOING TITS UP, BUT WHEN A PERSON (RIGHTLY OR WRONGLY) CANT STATE THEIR OPINION IN CASE OF OFFENDING SOME ONE ITS A SAD, SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS

PERSONALLY I CAN STOMACH THE LIKES OF DAVIDSON, MANNING ET AL, WHO HAVE BUILT A CAREER THROUGH ROUGH PUBS AND CLUBS, COMPARED TO THESE NEW "STARS"(?) WHO ARE GETTING FAMOUS FOR BEING HOW DO YOU SAY IT (WITHOUT OFFENDING PEOPLE)........................

BATTING FOR THE OTHER SIDE refyellow

I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS COUNTRY WHEN WE PRAISE PEOPLE FOR THEIR ABILITY TO "MINCE" BETTER THAN THE MAN ON THE STREET, AND ARE GIVEN A CAREER THROUGH IT banghead banghead banghead

JUST MY OPINION thrilled

Political correctness is merely the newest religion. Like all religions it has its unchallengable 'truths' and to be a non believer is to invite all the abuse a non believer desrves. Also, it has it's clergy who preach goodness but are f****g ruthless in surpressing non-believers. They expect you to embrace their view as the one true view ... like all such beliefs ...... we'll be having an inquisition next.

I think it's sad that Jim has now been booted off the cookery programme because of a remark which is very common in everyday life. I'm not defending what JD said but if the guy (don't know his name) thinks that shirtlifter is the worst thing he's ever heard then he's lived a very sheltered life. for him to then burst into tears over it - FFS, someone give him a slap. We all know that there are far far more offensive terms than that.

PC gone mad.

Apparently there were 30 complaints after the Chef said 'pikey' last week.

We are too PC in this country. I am no Jim Davison lover but thought saying shirtlifter was more discourteous than anything. Brian was unbelievably over-sensitive in my opinion. I would hate to think how he would crumble if someone did something genuinely nasty towards him. I had to agree with Jim when he said Brian was using the homophobic card.

People should complain over something worth complaining about not wasting effort on nothing. Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Not any more in this world.

Yes I know this thread has prolly gone on too long but I only just looked in.

My stance on Mr I's "say Jim Davidson has called Trevor McDonald a 'grey haired black bastid'":

I'd say that if T McD had spent his whole professional life taking the piss out of everyone who was not a good old white-hating son of Jamaica then he'd be getting his just deserts.

But I'm against arguing in analogies so I won't say that.
