Was on the line on Saturday for Morpeth V North Shields in the FA Vase. Hendo was playing up front and scored after 6 SECONDS!! Ball was kicked off, he charged it down and it just fell to him and he smashed it in from 25 yards. Must be some kind of record for a northern league player!

Also, before the game i'd told the referee about THAT MISS at Scunthorpe and, as the players were lining up for the second half he came running over and said 'howay liner man, it was my left foot'. We had a chat about it after the game and he told me it was the worst moment of his career and that he never slept for a week afterwards!

Really nice bloke and a proper professional.

Ahhh Kevin Henderson. Awful, awful player. I remember our fans banging on about how brilliant he was and he would leave us for better things when some could see he was utter crap and just had a lucky season, returned to his level.

Hendo was not the best of players, in fact as a footballer he wasn't very good at all but he deserves a lot of respect for simply giving 100% every time he played. He didn't posess a lot of natural ability but he got by on sheer grit and guts.

Also he scored the last goal at the Vic in 1999 and it was nothing short of awesome.......

That bag of shite called Henderson scored more goals for us in one season than any Pools player apart from Watson and Boyd in the last God knows how many years.
There have been a lot of posts recently about strikers not scoring.
I bet no one would complain about having a shite striker like Hendo scoring 19 goals this season.

Wonder how many were calling him shite after his overhead kick against York. He was a reasonable player for us at the time, we signed him a year after we had the likes of Stuart Irvine up front. Steady progress is the key and he helped the cause.

And for a player who played with so much back pain to perform so well again makes him even more shite

Yes a player that had one "gary jones" season and then played utter garbage and went down to the conference and below was really a great player.

But we're Hartlepool, not Liverpool, Tree. We don't have many 'great' players in our back catalogue. What we do have are players who gave their all for the club while they were with us. They, like Kevin Henderson, are the sort of players liked, even admired by a lot of Pools fans.

I know were hartlepool but after his one off season he restorted to being awful and doing shit for whatever non league sides he then played for.

I really get sick of people who think people who try hard are amazing players. He had no skill whatsoever, no pace, couldnt control the ball, couldnt pass and could hardly jump. But he ran around like a headless chicken all game so lets ignore the important facts and say he was brilliant!!

Er, Kevin Henderson, striker: 96 starts for Pools, 32 goals, i.e., better strike rate than, Porter, Brown, and Moore.

Methinks we need more awful strikers in the team.

Lies, damned lies and statistics?

How many sub appearances did he make?

How many of his goals came from sub appearances?

So if you take out his one "exceptional / overachieving" season, what does this do to his stats?

And why on earth would you want to take out his best season?
Take Porter's best season out and what is he left with?

Hendo scored 32 goals for us. It doesn't matter if he was cack and all his goals were jammy. OK he might not be on the list of all time greats but a goal every 250 minutes does make him a better than average striker and means he did his job. That's something we didn't have for over half of last season, the whole of the season before, and 3/4 of the season two years prior to that.
Would anyone be truly unhappy if we had a similar crap striker this season who still managed 19 goals?

In order to get a truer reflection of his general contribution.

Do the same with every striker and see how much difference there is between each figure- you'll get a better idea of how consistent a striker is at finding the net.

PS. I wouldn't be unhappy if Ali G scored 19 goals this season.

Hendo was great. I doubt many Pools players have suffered more concussions in the line of duty.

That's what we need more of - players who aren't afraid to tackle with their face.

stpid rolfl So to find out what he did at Pools you take out 1/4 of his time spent at Pools to get a 'truer' reflection?!

Some fans are unreal! Again, no one has or probably ever will say he is brilliant. He served a purpose for Pools and his goals that don't really count, counted enough to help us get into the playoffs.

Agreed, he did get stuck in but as a footballer he was pretty naff. His goalscoring record was ok but I cant help but feel that a lot of these were teed up on a plate by Tommy Miller. Any striker would have scored a few that season. I probably could have got 20/25 goals

Kevin Henderson did well for Pools even though he didn't have loads of ability, unfortunately for him I think the knee injury that kept him out for nearly all of the season before promotion finished him as a league footballer, he never looked the same after that. He was at the club for two seasons after and always struggled and I think some people will have that as a lasting impression. If he had left at the end of the 2001/2002 season I think peoples impression of him would be better. He was poor in the promotion season during his limited appearances and looked out of his depth at the beginning of the next season in league one (or two as it was then). He never failed to give his all though.

He was another who contributed in the turning around in the fortunes of the club and deserves credit and would always deserve a good reception back at the Vic. I often wonder how negative people like Tree with Hamster would have been about some of the shite we had Pre 2000

Hendo did very well in his best season. Admittedly he was never going to play for England but he gave everything he had which was indeed good enough at the time.

Oh my goodness, havn't had the computer on since i started this post and i really cannot belive the attitude of some people. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for free speech, but to slag of player like Hendo is nonsense. He worked his balls off and scored a decent amount of goals. End of.

Indirectly many people are paying Hendo a massive compliment in this thread. No disrespect to him but someone of his ability (or lack of it to a degree) had no right to do as well as he did in league football. If he ever returns to the vic I am sure he would get a fantastic reception, he played every game as if it were his last and was one player who seemed to be proud to represent Pools.....
