I think in a Frankie Stockton stylee..... Mr Poolie Kev and myself can take credit for that one. Mind you, it did not involve a random rendition in the RAFA club so perhaps we're disqualified. |

I remember in the 1991/92 season we were at home to Darlo & winning 2-0. It was the 2nd half & we were attacking the Rink End. Then Darlo played their ace card to try & get back into the game, they brought on John Borthwick. A minute or so after coming on he made a mistake & some wag in the Rink End shouted "thank you very much for buying Borthwick, thank you very much, thank you very, very much". Then the whole end joined in with him. Prudhoe in the Darlo goal was p*ssing himself laughing. |

That song is way older than the seventies though, before there was even such a thing as football chants. The silghtly politer version we used to sing in Portuguese bars when I was on a contract there back in the early seventies goes Aye-aye-aye-aye Si, si, SeƱora My sister Belinda pissed out of the window All over my brand new sombrero Then the verses are all on the lines of I like the gin, it helps me keep thin But I still prefer the vino I ... love ... the vino The tune Cielito Lindo is from a 19th century Mexican song. Alma Cogan, Britain's own singer of silly songs, had a hit with it in 1957. The rude words were probably originally a rugby song. Yes I know; I should have better things to do with my time. ![]() |

I was there that night. I was also there in the early seventies when they beat us 2-1 in the cup when old bald eagle, Jim Smith, was their player manager. You can make some racket in that away end....good accoustics. The very first chant I can remember at Pools was against Darlo and it was "dirty Greener" after their defender Ron Greener. Mr Greener didn't take prisoners !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
