at the risk of annoying everyone again, i still believe international football is becoming an irrelevance in this country.
once upon a time it was a players ultimate goal to represent his country, and most would have done so free of charge and walked to wembley for the privelege.
now the big premiership boys are running the show, they dictate if and when a player gets to play for his national side and how long he is allowed to play for.
the whole shitty show is about money. and the england team exists merely to flog shirts and beer every couple of years. this way a load of blazer wearing types get to bankroll their jags and country houses, and the england team staggers from one embarrassing defeat to the next.
the new manager is a jobsworth who will probably blunder his way to the euro finals in 2008 where we will go out in the quarter finals despite having most of the best players. the whole sorry saga is depressing.
p.s. dont you have to be a crock to sign for the mags in the first place ?
The whole international set up has changed dramatically over the last 20 years, it's basically gone from being an honour to just another media exposure/money making opportunity for the celebrity 'sportsmen' that are now the mainstay of the Premiership. The whole sorry spectacle of the WAGS, just about summed up the sordid level to which the show had sunk, drained of any dignity.
It's now an irrelevance, what would dear old Alf have made of it all... God bless him.
