As the fixtures are out this FRIDAY rolf I have been musing over how I would like them to pan out and what sort of fixtures people were hoping for.

I hope that we start and end the season at home because that seems to hardly ever happen to us, and apart from that don't care.

I think we will start with Leyton Orient or Bury at home.

Last away game will be Sheff United away.

If we get Watford..I want to know who the F*** put us in the Southern section or Watford in the Northern section.

First round is based on North and South sections and also seeded so take your pick from these probable seeded teams

Blackpool, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Burnely, Barnsley, Leicester City, Hull City, Middlesbrough, Coventry City, Peterborough United, Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United, Huddersfield Town, Rochdale, Carlisle United.

We would probably be unseeded along with

Sheffield Wednesday, Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic, Notts County, Walsall, Chesterfield, Bury, Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Crewe Alexandra, Macclesfield Town, Morecambe, Port Vale, Rotherham United, Northampton Town.

League starts 6th Carling Cup w/c 8th.

Note those teams are only probables, for being seeded. It based on last seasons finishing positions and of course someone may decided that that North South divide is different

Quite enjoy the away trip on first day of season to be honest. Although the last time i remember us winning away on first game was probably at Colchester and god knows how long ago that was!

But i do remember renditions of "we are top of the league!"

Peterborough 4-3 game was the last time we won away on the first day. That's a game you're unlikely to forget in a hurry and I've still got traces of sweat coming out of me.

Carlisle was a few years before that, over 10k in the ground and we ripped them to bits in the first half then it kicked off outside the ground.

I was well happy that night we went top of League One.

I can't remember seeing us ever be top of League One before, so to see us top of the League just for that night was excellent.

We won 2-0 away at Colchester on the first day of the season a while back. Sean McAuley scored a belter and I got drunk on a minibus on a scorching hot day. Must be getting on to nearly 20 years ago now?!

In fact that was probably the day that I first acquired the "Ripper" name after nicking a newspaper billboard about Sutcliffe from some little village on a minibus stop on the way down there, and after I started murdering prossies and burying them in bridge foundations it just kind of stuck.

I'm pretty sure Sweeney had made his debut before then. I think this was 2003 and if this year is testimonial year for him his debut was definitely before that game.

He didn't play at all.

Hartlepool: Anthony Williams, Nelson, Westwood, Jordan, Arnison, Clarke, Humphreys, Strachan, Robson, Eifion Williams, Paul Robinson. Subs: Provett, Henderson, Bass, Brackstone, Istead.

Not peterborough, carlisle. And the Carlisle match was his first start for Pools according to his wiki page

Carlisle away would be a decent first game. I like away games first as well - even Rochdale last year was a cracking laugh and you tend to have the mindset that any result as a bonus. An away game within 160 miles would be nice or I'd settle for stuffing Huddersfield at the vic....

I had £10 at 33's on the correct score that day  Funny, we went 3 nil up and they had never had a kick and I then had about 20 mins to wait at 3-1.

First day away to stevenage would be :coool:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob4vm_Lt8mc - Thursday night classic, I was a bit partial to their Scramble too.

I'm keeping my hopes up for a first game at home on the 6th - only weekend we're home during the summer, next chance to use this season ticket won't be til the end of October :(

That Peterborough game, Coopers first was mind bending.

Four debutants scoring, 3-1 down, a couple of thousand Poolies beseiging the Cherry Tree before the game and a huge buzz on the way home. Mickey Nelsons stunner, sunshine and tht feeling, yes, we belong in this league.

I met a lot of friends that day who are friends to this day.

None of them from fookin' Peterborough like...

Would love Carlisle away for the first match, concurring Jonny. Sick of playing them in the dark nights on a Tuesday and I believe over Xmas before that.

Got a feeling we will be away and get a newboy to the division: Stevenage at a guess.

Few years ago remember Swindon at home as the first game. Petr Brezovan in goal for them, he had a bloody forcefiled around his goal. Oh how the might Swindon Town have fallen!

On second thoughts it might well be Sheffield Utd away. We'll probably draw them buggers in the Carling Cup!
